I want an iPhone

iPhone is the best there is. Its like a first chocolate. And now the best thing about it is I can do anything with it. The apps of iPhone are just wonderful and allows me to do anything I want. That is because I found a site that offers lots of iPhone apps and creates apps on the basis of requirement. So you just name it and got an application.

Sounds like you set for the iphone but have you ever considered G1?

I was in the same boat as you couple months ago. I was deciding between the iphone and the G1. I ended up with the G1 and love it. If you can get past the looks, G1 can do pretty much the same thing as iphone and it does it cheaper and T-mobile is great so far. I decided against iphone because of the price of the plan (yes it adds up over time), my brother had one and sold it right away due to its reception problem (i've read it in an article also about a hardware problem), and the Android OS (google's OS) has soo much potential, there are new stuff being developed everyday for it. Plus I love messing (hacking) the phone is G1 was the best choice for me.

Oh, now that I think about it, the keyboard is a big plus if you text or email alot on the phone.

So how good is the 3G network? I live somewhat outside the city and barely get reception on my T-mobile phone. I have to have a land line at my house because of this. Actually, I have a $120 comcast package that includes internet, phone, and cable.

At $100 a month, if the I-phone could also act as my home internet connection and home phone, I would be sold. Is there an app that lets the I-phone act like a connection sharing router so you can access the internet from your home machines through the 3G network? Would the speeds be anything near what I am getting from Comcast? (like 3Mbs).

Hell, with most networks now putting their shows immediately on the web, could you use the I-phone for internet, home phone, and tv?

3G is pretty decent, if you're in an area that has it. It doesn't compare to cable internet, but I think it might approach what DSL can do (1.5Mbps)... not certain on that, though... I have many friends with the iPhone who can stream videos from youtube or others from the internet almost immediately--starts playing within 3 to 5-ish seconds of getting pulled up.

As for using it as a router, it's technically forbidden by AT&T... however, I have heard that there are ways around it.

Most of my friends with iphones have had problems with it. It does lock up and have issues. They think it's because it's an early generation one, ie they paid like $600 or $400 for it. Not because it's a bad phone.

I am not a fan of the iphone....partly because of the high price and partly because I like to feel the keys on my finger for texting...i can text and dial without looking at the phone. I would have to stop and look at the iphone in order to dial, etc.

it is around $200-300 dollars now, but still too much for me. I do, however, want the combo touch screen and key pad from lg....

No, it would be an 'upgrade' for you. AT&T works a la carte--you already have 850 minutes and unlimited texts in your plan. So if you get an iPhone, you would add a data package to your existing plan, but that's the only change you would see to your plan itself. You would also pay a one-time 'upgrade' fee (not sure of the tag on that), but if you've had your current phone longer than.... i think 18-24 months, the phone upgrade fee is waived.

When I moved back to CA from DC is when I noticed the horrible dropped calls. ATT tried to tell me it was my phone, but I switched to the Iphone and its even worse. Other than that I love the thing! listen to music at the gym. Watch youtube on cardio machines etc. Very useful!!!

I was using a verizon air card for my laptop @ $60 per month, I cancelled that and use the iphone instead!
Try the iphone for $99 when you are eligible for an upgrade, and if you dont like it, I think you have 30 days to try it and return it...

And I was told that you can always downgrade to your old data plan....

We have never had a problem with AT&T service. No dropped calls. Great coverage. We've been several places where our phones were the only working ones in our group and we were the only ones with AT&T.

We already have unlimited texting on our plan, so that's taken care of. It would just be the data I'd have to pay for.

So would getting the iPhone actually only cost me an extra $30 (or $35) per month over what I'm currently paying? If so, that is much more reasonable and something I'd seriously consider doing.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned having problems with their iPhone. Small samplng size I know, but people at work have had nothing but problems with theirs. It would lock up, couldn't call out, all manner of things. One person had to return his twice to the Apple store. Nearly all of my brother's social group have one, and he says most of them have had problems as well. Isolated incident? I would do a search on issues.

You can buy a used unlocked iPhone on eBay or Craigslist. Then use that on T-Mobile. This way you can avoid monthly data charge. Just use wi-fi at home.

Same thought here. I'm not sure that I'll actually want to surf on a tiny screen with no keyboard. Next time I'm at the Apple store, I'll check out the iPod touch also. I know that $30/month charge will get old real fast.

For example I have an app that lets me "tether" my iphone to my laptop, allowing me to essentially use the iPhone as an aircard.

I've heard AT&T specifically prohibits tethering. I don't know how they would detect it, but I seem to remember hearing if they did somehow suspect you were doing it they would terminate your agreement.

I don't really understand this policy, as many other devices openly support tethering. Our company encourages tethering (via Blackberry) instead of paying airport wifi fees.
