There are rare cases when you can save time and money while doing it yourself, such as changing your oil. Try getting your oil changed at wal-mart. Even quiklubes are timely. I buy my supplies in advance while grocery shopping.(i know someone out there was thinking: what about the time you drive to get the supplies then do the work )

      Hey Maat, regarding Wal-Mart
You could be shopping while they change your oil ya know. I change the oil on my work vehicle there and can sometimes pick up things for home or office while they work on it.

Depends on your store, our store, I hope you don't mind shopping for two hours.

Hehe - this is one I don't agree.

I don't think I mentioned but my dad is a huge DIY-er who I think drove me in the other direction (Too many so-so or bad jobs on big projects - just to save a few pennies).

Oil is a little different - it's simple - but by the time I changed the oil and got all messy and had to clean up, etc., I just didn't see the point - jiffy lube is like $20. (Which it seems you mentioned as an alternative?).

Oh yeah, then there is oil disposal and all that. Ugh...

Anyway, yeah, my dad thinks he failed me because I rather just pay a place like jiffy lube for an oil change. But I think he is crazy to go through all that to save a couple of bucks.

Anyway, he spends his time changing oil and I spend my time looking for jiffy lube coupons a couple of times a year. Much easier!

Maat, drop it off at a mall and then do your shopping. That's what I do. Get in all the shopping usually 2-3 hours worth and a meal. Then we're done. Or I'm feeling virtuous, I bring work and sit there and work for 3 hours.
