Re: What changes have you made?

I was just talking to DH about changes, and aside form the way we look at needs vs wants, we havn't made any, but then we have, lots of little ones, we just did it slowly and painlessly so we wouldn't be bothered by it. We honestly don't feel any broker now with no CC use than we did a year ago with the CC use. (and we are paying off the CC bill, slowly but paying it off)

When one uses a debit card, do they have to punch in their pin or is the transaction just made? -frightened of his debit card

Mehmeh - you have to put your pin number in, even at the gas pump, to use a debit card. What scares you about the debit card? It's pretty simple and straight forward. Just like writing a check -- without the pen.

Actually I use my debit card as a credit card all the time and I never, ever put in my pin number.

Even stranger (in my mind) I don't have to sign for my credit card in the grocery store if the purchase is under $25.

I think they used to have to chose which way to use it, if you sign it no pin, if you don't sign pin. Tell the checkout person your preference they shouldn't mind the easier they make it on you today the more likely you are to use it next time (which is easier on them)

Re: What changes have you made?

That's true. You can use it as a credit card, at the gas pump, you wouldn't have to put in a pin number, but in a store, you'd have to sign your name, just like with a credit card.

Debit cards can be used either way.

Re: What changes have you made?

what bothers me about a debit card is that if i lose it or it's stolen, mainly the hastle it would be to redeem any stolen funds whereas w/ a regular atm card, i can just go make a withdrawal and even if i lose it, it would take a crafty thief to crack my pin, presumably!

My debit card and ATM card are the same thing. It has a little mastercard/visa in the corner, so I can use it as a debit card. Check yours - does it have that?

what do you do for stores like Michaels? every time I shop there they atomaticly do it as a credit. It irritates me cause they don't even ask for id which makes me mad I have See id on all my cards.

I don't shop at michaels but I made my husband write check ID on the back of his card and people barely ask for it when he's out using it!!

it is annoying isn't it? some other person could be out using your card and you would not even know it cause these companies are not checking ids. I use to work for toysrus and no matter what if it had to be signed we had to check ids. I am sorry it just irritates me that they don't ask when it is their job!

indeed, my debit card is a visa/atm card. i've been toying with the idea of closing my primary savings account and just keeping the checking now that i have ING. a 500 dollar minimum on low-yield savings is just too much to ask of me... not that i spend money, just that i'd like to see what little i have grow, lol and in terms of liquidity, that's a lot of money to keep in regular savings and not use.. lol i might as well put it in a CD and forget about it
