  • Is it ok if I don't have favors at my wedding?

I'm trying to cut costs...man is it hard! Is it ok if I don't include wedding favors? I wanted to make a modest donation to my local SPCA instead..

It's either that or favors that I think people will probably leave behind...

"favors"? i can't even begin to imagine what those might be, and i've been to dozens of weddings.....

Personally, I think you'd be just fine without them. I've never heard of anyone expecting a take-away from anybody's wedding.

We put CDs at everyone's seat. I am probably the only one which still listens to it- I have had the CD in my car changer since I got back from the honeymoon- no exceptions. Going on 7 years of marriage in august.

I will be highly offended if I get no favor. That settles it. I'm not coming.

Seriously, no reason you have to give out favors. If, however, you want to do something without it being costly, favors can be as simple as a little toile sack of M&M's tied with a ribbon and placed at each place setting. It doesn't have to be something fancy or expensive.

Well, I've spent a good part of the last year being a Bat Mitzvah planner which is essentially the same thing.

We had no favors at our wedding, and I never heard any comlaints...

Since we were combining 2 homes and families, we did give out at each place a "business card" that listed our address, phone number and email addresses. Everyone had been asking if we were going to live at his house or mine, and what our email would be. People seemed very happy to get the cards and I really don't recall any being left at the tables afterwards.

FYI-we didn't feed them either--just a cake, nut and punch reception.

Personally, I think they are a waste of time & money. I don't go to a wedding to get the favor. They end up in the trash. Think green - save $$ & the environment.

No favors and no booze. Nice, simple, cheap wedding.

Same with our affair. We printed our own invitations, made the placecards, are making the centerpieces and the favors (chocolate molds). We bought the kids' favors (t-shirts). I'm also making the sign-in board.

The last several weddings we've been to haven't had favors.

You could do the M&M's or there's always Hershey's Kisses!

If I were a guest, I would not miss the favor. I don't think there have been favors at all receptions I went to. For a couple it has only been an announcement, "Please feel free to break up the table bouquets and take home a few flowers."

Don't feel like you have to justify the cut by giving money to charity. Donate to charity when the time is appropriate. But if you regularly give to the SPCA and your wedding was going to prevent a donation, well I can see why you connect the donation to cutting the expense of favors.
