  • Psst--I'm not....

    Psst---I'm not watching the Superbowl.

Two years my husband and I went to Walmart during the Superbowl. We didn't plan it that way; it just happened. But, ah, is Walmart different when the only ones there are you and the people who just moved to this country last Tuesday and they need to buy pillows & a rice cooker and have never heard of Superbowl! You could skate wide pirouettes in the aisles with no trouble at all.

    Anyone else not tuned in?

Teehee...I'm not watching either. I admit, I neither like nor understand football (I probably dislike it because I don't understand it, but never had the desire to learn). Sunday is our bowling night, so there were a lot of people watching at the alleys (not me). When we got home, DH continued to watch it, but I came to the computer so I could watch all the commercials from tonight without those annoying football breaks.

The Super Bowl's that ice cream parlour in Scottsdale, Arizona right? The one Family Circus cartoonist Bil Keane took his kids to middle of last century?

A friend of mine had to tell me what time it was on and remind me that it was earlier today. Not only that, but I don't even know which teams are playing.

I have nothing against it, but it just doesn't interest me.

Much smarter than going to Wal-mart before the game. I told my wife it was similar to shopping the day before Christmas, but without the joy!

That's the Sugar Bowl, not the Super Bowl (and not to be confused with the college bowl game in New Orleans either).

Well, I certainly heard it on the news the morning after. Quite the upset or so I hear.

Actually, I was at Walmart during the Super Bowl. It was quite packed, but still less than normal.

Two years ago on christmas, a friend of mine who is a police officer, was doing guard duty at an area walmart. He invited me and my wife to come in for awhile, we got to ride bikes all over the place and take the time to look at stuff without bumping into a hundred people, it was cool.

Growing up we never watched football. My parents couldn't care less about it.

They'd take us to Chuck E. Cheese on Superbowl Sunday because it was always dead that day making it somewhat tolerable fr the adults.

I fell out of spectator sports slowly, and over time. It was not a conscience decision. I came to the realization that rooting for a team, for example the Raiders or LA Lakers is irrational because:

                            1. I don't know any of the players personally.
                            2. Their winning of losing does not effect me financially (unless I bet).
                            3. Geographically it makes little sense too because most of these players are not natives of where I was born/raised/live, so it's often not like a native son scored...big deal!
                            4. I can't relate to any of the players, many whom are millionaires and live beyond my socialeconomic stratus.
                            5. I don't need the "bragging rights" if "my team" wins. Big deal.

So then why burn time, and energy watching a bunch of rich strangers get richer, more successful, and such?

I'd rather spend the time hiking, getting out, spending time with my kids, making pictures....oh well, to each his own ;-)

As to Walmart....I call it "China-Mart" because it is nearly impossible to buy something there that is not made in China.

Sorry for the drivvle...have a nice day!

I have never watched a super bowl in my life and don't intend to. The first question I asked my dh when I met him, was "do you like football" I was not about to even date a sports nut cause that was all my first husband thought about (football)
