When my car turned 100K, we actually pulled over and took a picture of the odometer. Our daughter wasn't with us and was upset that she missed it.

For the van, my wife made sure that our daughter was with her when it turned so she could see it.

    * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?

I think keeping cars longer than the average household is a great way to save money, especially if the upkeep remains reasonable.

I'm too embarrassed to post the years of the cars DH and I are still driving around- suffice it to say that they are both Hondas, one with over 200K and one with over 400K...
You got me curious? What year?

My medical assistant has a 1998 Corolla with well over 200,000 miles.

Awesome, congrats! You must have been keeping on top of maintenance pretty well.

Congrats! We have three cars over 100,000 (DS drives one) and DD's is approaching it. Until we had kids in high school and college, we didn't put the miles on the cars so fast. But the last several years have been a far different story. We are shooting for a new category for us--all cars over 150,000. So far, Hubby's truck is in the lead.......

There is no reason that a well maintained car could not go over 200k easily, but please be advised that you are due for your 100k mile service on both cars if you haven't already done them.

Toyotas are well built cars and can handle the mileage if you maintain them well.

Is it enough for me to say that I'm in my 30s and rather tired of folks my own age excitedly approaching me to recount how they drove "one of those cars" back in highschool, and how much they loved it?

It doesn't help that DH repainted the old one to its original glory just 2 years ago. He is overly attached to both cars- a bone of contention between us. I don't want to get rid of the cars perse, but the above story is not a rarity and I'm tired of feeling like some kind of Disco Stu spectacle who people perceive as being caught in the past. It's just my car, it's what gets me from point A to point B...

They both had their 90K service, including timing belts, as well as their routine oil changes since then. The van is going in for service this week and my car probably next week.

I drove a Geo Metro for over 200,000 I think, I was too young to pay much attention to that. My parents bought it new and it was mine when I went off to college.

Now I have a Dodge Intrepid at 158,000 and an Olds Cutlass at 116,000. Both are doing well.
