  • DW's car turned 100,000 miles today

We now are the proud owners of 2 vehicles with over 100,000 miles. I turned 100K on my 1998 Camry in June and my wife hit 100K on her 2000 Sienna today. The Camry was bought with about 11,000 miles and the Sienna was bought with about 34,000 miles. The Sienna will surpass the Camry in no time as we drive that a lot more and use it when we travel. We've never before had 2 100K cars at the same time so a new milestone.

Very good. How about fresh windshield wipers to celebrate? I love new windshield wipers.

Funny you mention that because she needs wipers.

Cool. I can't wait until I keep our cars that long.

Congrats, disneysteve. That's what I call revenge for all the brainwashing by the auto industry goosing people to trade in their vehicles every two years or so. BTW do you do your own maintenance?

That's great! We have 1 110k car- 96 Dodge Caravan which we bought in 1999. We will be probably replacing it next summer after our current car loan is paid off. We will be looking at a Toyota or Honda because I would like to be part of the 150k mile club!

Toyotas seem to go the distance. I'm driving a 1995 Avalon with 128,000 miles, and I've done nothing beyond routine service thus far.

Nope. I'm not the mechanic. I let the professionals take care of that.

My Corolla is at the cusp of 170k, and it's still driving just fine.

Even though it's only the experience of one car, it's made me a believer.

Oh, congrats on your wife's car, Steve.

Cars are supposed to be durable goods after all, eh? There are some folks who, if they stumbled upon us all being congratulatory about this, would actually think us a little weird and our much traveled cars a little disgusting. To us it is one of the finest ways to be frugal: Take care of something that is expensive in the first place so that it will keep on working for us.

Bookie and BrokenArrow, you are doing fine, too! I just had to laugh at myself because I thought, "I wish my car were that old!" Uhm, aren't I supposed to wish for a new car?

My girlfriend's 92 Honda Accord had 234,000 on it but we had to get rid of it this past summer. It was becoming unsafe. Being that she has two daughters that she drives back and forth to school and to friends' houses, we decided to get something a little newer and more reliable. Especially with the winter weather approaching

Neat! Did you get the family together to watch the odometer turn over?

I think keeping cars longer than the average household is a great way to save money, especially if the upkeep remains reasonable.

I'm too embarrassed to post the years of the cars DH and I are still driving around- suffice it to say that they are both Hondas, one with over 200K and one with over 400K...

No, there was no celebration to watch it turn over. It just sorta happened one day without anyone paying too much attention. We actually sold it to a friend who continues to drive it to this day.

Hubby and I both have cars at just over 100K. His is starting to get annoying though, little things are breaking. The handle on his door most recently. He's going to have to order the part from the dealership to fix it. For know he has to roll down his window every time he wants out of his car. So far mine is holding up better then my last one. I finally traded it in when the handle broke, well it was jimmy rigged, AND then the window broke. I loned it to my boss to run and errand and he couldn't get out of the car!!! I as so embaressed, I traded it in that week....lol. It had about 140K on it at that point.

Too many people get their self esteem from their cars/trucks!! I like the fact I don't have a car payment, get cheep and GOOD insurance (not state mins because even that is more then I can afford) and wonderful gas milage.

My suburban is at 143,141. Havent driven it since June, been using my aveo. But, when the snow hits, the suburban will be back out as it is 4x4.
