Good advice - anonymity on the internet is a good thing, and divulging personal info isn't really necessary to have a good internet experience anyways.

Of course, the flip side of posting personal stuff is that it can sometimes lead to really neat chance encounters.

We took a cruise a few years ago. In my signature on another board, I posted a family picture from the cruise. Someone recognized us from the picture because she was on the cruise with us. Not only that, but we had actually met on the cruise when I played a version of "Who wants to me a millionaire" and picked this woman's husband as a lifeline. Turned out she had photos with me in them that she had taken during the game when her husband got involved. We ended up sending each other some photos.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

What are the odds? Great example of how the internet can be used for good not evil.

Since someone bumped I'll add another comment.

Earlier this week we had someone post on our local forum who had been in a car accident. He posted detailed pictures along with his statement that practically amounts to an admission of guilt.

It's stuff like that that can potentially get you in trouble. I advised him to seek legal counsel and not to comment on an ongoing case, especially when your comments will be used against you.

If I were opposing counsel it would make my job much easier to get a favourable judgement based on his post (he even posted pictures of his car and himself).

In this instance I know I am not paranoid. Internet postings have been introduced into legal evidence before, especially if there's an admission of guilt.

Thats true IndebtInDC. It is never good to reveal stuffs about anyway in Internet and specially if it relates to such kind of accident or any other things which might be a legal issue.
