If you are stuck with a phone line..don't plug a phone in, and you wont get annoying calls..though you will still be paying for a service you don't use..an annoyance.

On the cable company...is there no competition in your area? We have I think three options in Charlotte...though they all use the same line...but the service is different.

Heh. Yeah, I have a DSL modem and a land line that I don't use. Yes, it's kind of irritating, but since they were nice enough to cut my monthly bill by half when I threatened to cancel.

Actually, I have found that a landline is useful in applications that asks for stuff like that, but I don't want to get any phone calls from.

I've noticed most of the alternative ISPs are in the South, which is frustrating in the northeast.

I looked into Fios, but it's a 3 in 1 type deal, and you have to have all 3. All I want is 2/3, and I don't even want a VOIP type phone. I have a phone already, and I'll stick to my cellphone.
