We don't have any lines either, but I live in a small town. I just go thru the drive thru window once a week or so.

Interesting question...my husband and I have never used an ATM and we don't have a debit card. Guess we are just the few, the proud...wait, that's the Marines! :-)

I love my ATM, sometimes I use it 2 or 3 times in a single day. If I only take out small amounts of money I spend less... But I haven't paid any ATM fees all year, because my account refunds them.

I used an ATM back in the teen years, I never paid a fee for it (it was outside my bank) but now we use the cash back option if we really need cash (no fee)

We do not deposit checks via atm, we don't trust em..dunno why really.

Can understand your concern about depositing checks and anyone that can get your information by installing and swiping numbers is scary.

I've read alot lately about not letting your credit card out of your sight when paying a restaurant bill. My son says that I'm being paranoid but I don't believe so. This is happening too much lately.

What do you guys think about it?

My cousin, who is a bank VP, once explained to me that because of how ATM deposits are handled, they are actually safer than handing a check to a teller. There is more potential for fraud at the teller window. I don't remember the details, but that was the bottom line. I always deposit our checks at the ATM and have never had a problem.

Steve: I had always thought that it would be safer to give your credit card information out on the telephone rather than using the internet. Our banker told us something similiar to what you explained that it was safer to use the internet than the phone. That was good info that you gave to us. Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely. When you give your number online, it is encrypted and processed electronically. No human is involved in the process and the card number generally isn't stored in any way. When you give it to a human, though, all bets are off. All a dishonest person needs to do is have the card number to make unauthorized charges.

As much as some people fear them, electronic transactions are safer and more secure with less likelihood of fraud. They always say that most cases of identity theft happen either from people you know or from someone swiping something from your mailbox or trash bin. Online fraud is much more difficult.

I never deal in cash and haven't used an atm in years. We have reward credit cards and pay them in full every month and get a cool $600 back between the both of us for our use. Hardly any situations when I need cash.

They think this might have been the way they got my debit card information to counterfeit it. I am getting more leary of letting go of my card now. I don't think you are paranoid. I've actually switched to using the credit card instead because the money doesn't automatically leave my account. I should probably use cash, but I'm not in the habit of it yet.

We used to use ATMs about 25 years ago, but we haven't used them in ages. At that time, we didn't keep very good track of usage and it was a lot easier to spend the cash and not know where it went than if we wrote a check. Now we use debit/credit cards mostly. Hubby still never knows how much cash is in his wallet--I always have to ask if he has enough for something. And he always has to check. lol
