  • Frugal? Cheap? Embarassing?

So I would guess I know the answers of people around here, but I'm still curious...

I went to the grocery store last night and they had 12-packs of Sam Adams for $10.99 and 6-packs for $7.99. Unfortunately, they were out of the 12-packs, so I asked if they'd sell me two 6-packs for $10.99. They said yes, so I saved $5!

Is this cheap or frugal? Would you be embarassed to do this?

i work at a little store we do that all the time ,If we are out of 18 packs I will tak a 12 and 6 and sell it at the 18 price , or take two 6 and make a 12

not cheap and i think most anystore would do that and not think a thing bad about you ;-)

Not cheap or embarrasing. Perfectly good logic, and good customer service. I've done this as well.

Most places where I shop it could be hard to find someone to ask who has the authority to make the decision. If I then got permission, there would be the further problem of getting the permission communicated to the cashier. I mostly shop in large stores.

In my most frequented grocery store, they are very accommodating in the office; I feel like they will do anything they possibly can for a customer. But a person could stand in line quite a while waiting to ask the beer question while others in front of you are buying lottery tickets, paying utility bills, cashing paychecks, returning chocolate ice cream with the chocolate missing, buying postage stamps, wiring money to Guatemala, asking permission to sell Girl Scout Cookies on site, looking for a donation to the homeless shelter, asking which day the Wonder bread is delivered, asking if they are taking applications for the deli, etc.

It's not stupid or frugal -- it's clever and smart.

If anything, the store employees are secretly laughing at the customers who buy one $10.99 12-pack instead of two $7.99 6-packs. I used to work in retail where this sort of thing was done occasionally, and we couldn't help but shake our heads at customers who did that.

Nope it was a smart thing to do!

I do that myself... if I can find the right person to ask.

Heck no! That's the price and you have a right to that since it was advertised. If they wouldn't give it to you, I would have asked for rain check

I think you are doing a great job. You don't lose anything by asking but you save $5 for it.

Been there and done that on many a sell item they were out of!

A very common thing to do in most stores.

Why are you buying Sam Adams! That isn't frugal. You should only be buying Bud or Pabst if you want to be cheap! LOL

NOT at all, it shows you have negotiation skills, this is done in all areas; businesses do it, wholesellers do it, people do it in the markets. i wouldn't be embarrased at all!
