I have just always budgeted for my highest monthly electic bill ($160) every month and save the balance in a money market account. BTW, your tv does not use that much power. I have one of those kilowatt testing devices.

Yep but how much more of a headache would that be? Plus they raised the rate per them by 35% in May. So it's even higher now so I'm going to have to project.

Nope, my sheer laziness say let them figure it out and take the money and hold it for me. Plus the company Keyspan changes every 4 months to make sure the balance is dead on.

Plus we're adding in a gas fireplace this year which will change the usage and our "guest" does NOT appear to be leaving.

Oh, I agree. That's why I use the budget plan. My total bills for the year were less than $2,400, and only a small amount of that would be earning interest at any given time. To me, it just isn't worth the hassle of constantly moving money around to make a few extra bucks.

With the envelope system I use the only thing I have to do is set the monthly amount and forget about it. The bill is paid automatically and I just have to keep an eye on the amounts. When I check the history I just go to that envelope do the math and then add a little. The money sits in my account, which earns interest, so I never have to transfer money. I guess it depends on the system you have set up. Also I am dealing with a MUCH smaller swing then you are!! If there are 35% increases...well yeah, you'd have to add that to the quation and it would complicate things...wow that's a jump!
