Like HeartCarved I would have to say my car, 1994 Plymouth Voyager, top is starting to rust a bit, but it costs $19.00 a month to insure and is still fine for me since the dogs can roam around inside on the drive to the dog park and I don't worry about it, 180,000 original engine/tranny miles. I almost dread getting a new car because of the insurance costs and relegating the dogs to the back with one of those wire barriers to keep them there.
I have started renting cars for trips, but even once a month for a few days is cheaper than a car payment.

My daily driver. It's a 95 acura integra with 322k miles, beat all to hell and a pos but I've been holding on to it since I only paid $500 for the car and $400 for the motor in it. Atleast until I get my $250 honda crx running. Then I'll part out the integra and should make atleast half of what I had in it.

Answering my own question again, another thing is all the awnings on our 1910 house. The worst are the fiberglass awnings over the front porch and second story west windows. Ugly, ugly, ugly. Second are the white alumininum awnings over the remaining west and south facing windows. I don't know when these things were stylish, but they are hideous. But I keep them because despite the ugly, ugly, ugly, they are functional, functional functional....I have looked at awnings available in Australia, and let me tell you, the Aussies have figured out how to do awnings tastefully--not to mention adjustably. Sure wish I could ditch my west and south facing awnings in winter."There is some ontological doubt as to whether it may even be possible in principle to nail down these things in the universe we're given to study." --text msg from my kid

I dislike clutter, and if i thought an item was ugly, i'd probably dispose of it in some way.
Plus, while there was a time when i used a wood Coca Cola crate (the kind used with glass bottles) as a jewelry box, and plastic crates as stools and could carry all my worldy possessions in the back of my pickup, i have 'come up in the world' and accumulated some nice furniture and such that will likely be with me forever.
I can't think of anything i own that is old and ugly, altho my 8 yr old car is what i would call a "Plain Jane" but i will keep it til it stops running.
