What have you got that is old and ugly, but you keep it anyway?

I've got quite a few such. For instance, there is the 1920's wardrobe I bought at a convent that was being closed down. It was clearly a cheap piece in its day, and even if had been well made, it would still be ugly, in my opinion. But I put inside of it wire shelves that fit perfectly. It holds our printer, paper, and scads of other stuff. The whole thing also fits the space in the room perfectly. Old, ugly, scratched, not terribly sturdy, missing a piece of its celluloid doorknob, a little water damage probably from mopping at its bottom, but it fills our need. So we keep it.

I'm a minimalist, so I can get fairly aggressive at removing "clutter". The only things I don't get rid of are items that have sentimental value.

Oh, any number of things in our house. As far as I'm concerned, if it works, I keep it. I'm not all that hung up on appearances. I will say that DW isn't quite as forgiving as I am. If it were up to me, we'd still have our original bedroom furniture which consisted of hand-me-downs from 3 or 4 different sources that obviously didn't match. But it was in our bedroom. Who saw it but us? I finally broke down years ago and got a set, though.

Our bedroom carpet would qualify as old and ugly, though. We've been in the house 13 years and it was old and ugly when we got here.

Me too. I don't keep too much in the way of "stuff". I guess we have a couple of ratty old blankets and shirts that are old and ugly but sooooo comfortable for sleeping.

I bought all new furniture when I moved in my house, so it looks great. However,as a builder, we have to show our house a lot. I have the old ratty shirts too!

One of my many bookcases. I have one from when I was little and it is obvioius that it once belonged to a little girl-I have stickers, doodles, stamps, "sticker jewelry" all over it. The wood is old and splittering, but that's ok.

The bookcase holds books perfeectly well and that's all it is needed to do.

I'm waiting for someone to post "my wife!"

Our cars, very old (20&30) and somewhat ugly, but cheap, functional, and fuel efficient. Our sofa is no great shakes, but with a toddler around I'm hesitant to change it for a few years.

I've got an old and ugly 1996 Geo Metro hatchback. We call it the purple rollerskate. It's got 140,000 miles on it and has seen its fair share of dings and dents.

We keep it because we don't want to spend the money to buy a newer car right now. The Geo runs well, it's a great back-and-forth car for my husband, who has a whopping 4 mile commute.

We have two hand-me-down couches that are ugly, but they work and if I cared that much I could buy slip covers. We have the ugliest kitchen cabinets in the world, but we'll paint them this fall. The kitchen countertops are ugly, too, but no plans to do anything with them, yet.

Ditto having an old an ugly couch. Mine has changed hands many times. But, I live in an apartment and am hesitant to blow money on a nice couch (especially since I live in a walk-up and don't want to lug a new one up and the old one out).

My vacuum is old and is an extremely ugly yellowy-beige colour, but it still works.

We have a couple of chairs in the bedroom that don't look too good. They were about the only things my Holly chewed on when she was a puppy. I will probably get new ones when I see something I like.

Most of what we have is old and ugly (including me). We don't buy new. I'd have to be really wild about something to buy new. I once bought a couch that I loved, and had it done to my specs. My X took it so I don't do that anymore!@!!

                              Cars

kitchen table and chairs - none of which match

my computer desk - is really just a cheapy "student" desk made from pressboard

ratty and holey towels - they work well for messes on the floor and to step out of the shower onto

ratty and holey clothes - we wear them around the house and save our "good" clothes for going out in public

fridge - it just won't die... we want a new one with water and ice in the door
