  • New car battery - $111.00

I went out this morning to donate blood. Left there and stopped for gas. No problems. After lunch, we all get in the car to go to the movies and the car was dead. I figured it was the battery but nothing to do about it right then, so we hopped in the van and went to the movie.

When we got back, I had DW jump start my car and drove it over to Pep Boys, as my choices at 5pm on Sunday were rather limited. Fortunately, they were open and said they could do it right away. Total damage was $111 and change, which was fine with me. I'm sure I could have just bought the battery and installed it myself but I'm not the most mechanical when it comes to cars and it is worth my money to have someone else do the work for me.

I was in and out of there in about 40 minutes, quick and efficient, just a little lighter in the wallet.

Glad it all worked out all right for you! Is this the first time you've had to replace this battery?

I was wondering that myself. I checked my service records and it is the 2nd time. It was previously replaced 11/13/02. That battery had a 5-year warranty. Since it is less than 5 years, I wonder if I'm entitled to anything. Probably not since I didn't have the work done at the same place, but I'll call tomorrow anyway. Can't hurt to ask.

Come on steve, where's your frugalness? Of i can replace a battery you can. I am the most illiterate person with any sort of home or car repairs. Trust me, I broke a tooth doing home repairs, so now I do nothing except painting.

But my car was dead and the stupid autozone even if I paid them wouldn't change it. I got a jump from a neighbor, made it to the store, where i Had to replace it myself or have it towed. All you do is remove the old battery with a wrench and throw in the new one.

I know. Call it a moment of weakness. I'm sure I could have changed it but I did have a similar experience years ago and for whatever reason, the terminals on the new battery were positioned differently than the old one and I couldn't get the cables to reach. I ended up having to put the old battery back in, jump start the car and drive it over to the shop to have them install the new battery. It isn't worth the aggravation to take the chance.
