How many of you have worn something until it started pulling apart? I had a garment like that. I had washed it so much that it started splitting and I felt like I was getting rid of a friend.

I have worn shorts that have holes in them from walking on the treadmill so much. In the winter, I usually wear sweat pants when I stay home.

I don't work out of the house so it is jeans/sweater in the winter months sometimes sweatpants but I don't wear those out of the house.

In the warmer months capris and a short sleeve shirt.

Not necessarily bag lady but not dressy either

Yes, or as close to it as possible. I care for an invalid grandmother and several large dogs that need plenty of exercise. I also occasionally watch my boss's very jumpy and exuberant dogs (his office is in a farm behind my house, which is where he keeps his dogs). So I make it a point to wear clothes that are already mud-stained from the dogs. I even have a whole set of clothes/shoes/coats that I designate as the "dog clothes."
Of course, I didn't buy a whole wardrobe just for dog-grandmother-house care...they're just old clothes. Well, except for the coat and shoes, as I realised early on I need something for fall through early spring that can handle mud and trekking through the woods several times a day.

I do wear slightly nicer things for other times, like when I'm actually at the office or in class. Basically any time that calls for me to put on some makeup and contacts, I'll wear nicer clothing.

My partner is the same way. Actually, the only reason he has nice, good-quality clothing is because of work. I was lucky to find someone who cares nothing about clothing or superficial appearance. I can be at my worst unwashed-ness and he'll still think me beautiful and whatnot. Of course, that means my partner is no help when I am worrying about my appearance. :-/
