Re: NE1 else avoiding MYSPACE hype?

I searched out my high school, and by and large everyone there is 10-15 years younger than me. MySpace has always felt young to me, as though it were built for teenagers. I hate the page layouts and how slow most of them are to load.

I do check out theknot.com often for ideas but I am finding that a site is extremely materialistic and encourages people that they need to buy everything for their wedding and is mainly for the national average budgets.

I enjoy Martha Stewart wedding website and theweddingchannel.com also.

I have been hesitant about starting my own wedding website(Free) on any of them because not sure I like my private life exposed with pictures online but I do like the idea of having all the details of the wedding on a website so I can look at it years later for memories that can’t get damage or lost.

I've never used MySpace, but I am on Facebook because I work at a university and it's a fantastic way to stay connected with our students. They are more likely to hear and learn about campus events through Facebook than practically any other medium. Lots of department offices at our university have Facebook pages, including ours.

I am the only person with my first and last name on myspace. If someone knows me well enough to know my last name, they can easily find me.

I live in a town of about 6000 people. I will reveal my state but not my city. I just perfer the privacy.

It's fun to hear from people I haven't heard from in years, but I don't go searching for them myself nor do I contact people I've never met. The site is very slow so there is too much of a frustration factor for me to explore it, but I leave a presence there in the same way I leave a presence in the phone book even though I almost never touch the thing.

I agree about the site being slow. It does get frustrating. Occasionally I'll post a bulletin, however I havent done that in ages.

As for the phonebook, I don't leave a presence in that, and I love it (I'm cellphone only)

I have a myspace account, and I think that it is great. It is not just high school friends, but people you have totally lost touch with. People you knew from your college years. People you knew from former jobs. Your cousin that you love but only get to see once a year. It is an easy way to communicate with friends, family, everyone. As far as privacy, my profile is set to private so I don't worry too much.

Yeah, teens can look silly and there can be advertisements. You only have to put up with that a) if you have teenage friends or look at teenage profiles and b) you set your profile to public.

Hmmmm. . . talking to strangers that you'll never meet in real life or talking to your REAL friends . . . I'll take my real friends.

There are some friends I just never talk to outside MySpace - it is just convenient to keep in touch with people.
I agreel it's good for people that I'd gve nothing to say to in real life half the time, but want to keep in contact with.
