I never did until I found a safe stripper that doesn't have all sorts of dire warnings on the label of what can happen to me if I am not careful.
This Safest Stripper by 3 M works great. I bought a solid wood coffee table listed on Craigs list for $30.00 and plan to refinsh it sometime soon. Meanwhile, I bought a reduced price Christmas table runner to cover the scratched top. Hey, it's nice. It's gold with some embroidery on it. Doesn't even look Christmasy. It was half price.


Any other Craigs list buyers /free takers?
I got a great little bistro set this week for free. Glass top and two chairs. It had been outside and seen better days, but with some cleaning and new paint job it is looking good! I had to take it apart with an allen wrench. Not easy , they screws seem to have been stuck, but I wasn't giving up!
I could see a great little table and chairs in my mind and now it almost is what I pictured. I ordered green checked cushions for it! What a good deal I got!

I've inherited a dining table that has seen better days and needs stripping. Thanks for the heads up on what to use. One day I, too, may be stripping...

I seem to recall refinishing something in the past though I can't seem to recall what it was. In recent memory, however, no. And not in the foreseeable future. Our house is furnished - has been for years. I don't anticipate adding any furniture (new or used) to the house so there wouldn't be anything that needs refinishing.

No, but I have a dresser handed down from my FIL that I would like to refinish. It's been in my garage for about 5 years. I might just check out that product. I now have an unfinished basement with a window...so I may be able to set up shop there.

I think its great that some of you can find such great deals. It can really help a budget when its tight...or you'd rather invest your money elsewhere!

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post.
For those who plan to refinish something another product I like is
JW etc's Craftsmans Blend wood stain and sealer. It's non toxic, dries fast, and looks good. Comes in several shades.
I used to find it at art/craft stores, but had to order it online recently.

I stripped an old school desk I bought from the school district. It was a teacher's desk. I used some commerical stripper and in a well venitilated area. Between the stripper and the sanding, it turned out pretty decent. I use the desk for my computer. I don't think I will do it again because the fumes were pretty bad, even with venitlation.

As for disrobing, I probably should be paid NOT to take my clothes off, not that I have that inclination. However, the newspaper always has an ad for wanted: exotic dancers. Nah, I'm too chicken!

As a rule, I always get furniture from the trash and I always coat them with a coat of polyurethane. I don't strip. It is just too messy for me and I am not a perfectionist.

Yep-I once got a desk someone dumped at the bridge. was going to paint it, but it was peeling so thought i would strip it first to give the new paint an even coat. glad i did--it was CHERRY wood. my mom still has that desk.

Glad my mind wasn't the only one in the dumpster. I did know one um, girl who couldn't afford clothes, that was trying to pesuade me to do male review night...
