is it a special treat in your house or a staple? or do you think it is a waste of $$ and stay away from it?

Waste of money and bad your your health!! I only buy pop/soda if we're having a party or having house guests who drink it.

We used to buy generic pop in cans and every week to 10 days we'd have a night where the two of us would each have a can of pop with dinner.

It must have been at least a year since we last did that, though.

We have no kids at home to spoil so---YAyyyyyy- we stocked up last week at Target. Ultimately, the soda cost under a buck a 12 pack. I went 4 days= 16 packs. THAT will last a while!!

It in not a regular part of our groceries, no. If any of us want some it comes out of our pocket money.

Almost never. Only occasionally buy coke for hangovers and to unclog drains (it works great for both purposes). We probably buy 1 half liter of coke per year. Soda is probably one of the worst things you can do to your body. Drink water, beer, or wine; they all have substantial health benefits.

                Re: Do you buy pop?

Diet soda is a fairly regular thing in our house. We both enjoy the taste and like to have variety in our beverages.

Sugar pop is a pretty rare thing, though I do absolutely love it.

Why would soda be any more of a waste of money than anything else? It's just one more food product. Almost anything at the grocery store could be considered a waste of money depending on your perspective. It's up to everyone to find balance in their budget and diet.

heh, except for the pop needed to fix the hangover aqquired from drinking them

knew about the hangover help, but not the drains...

                    There's irony in there somewhere.

Special treat in this house. But, I do keep a 1 liter 7up or ginger ale on hand for upset stomachs. I find its easier to get a kid to drink it, than to take the tummy medicine, (Plus they think its cool to burp). In college we did an experment where we put meat and cow teeth in soda and timed how long it took to disolve. Then we repeated the experiments adding different antiacids in...It kind of turned me off on the soda bit. I still remember that, and it was almost 27 years ago.

Soda **is** different from other grocery expenditures becaue it offers ZERO beneficial nutrients aside from calories. I choose to get my calories from nutrient dense foods. Perhaps calling it a waste of money is harsh, but it provides me no enjoyment and no nutrients, so that's how I view it.

hehehehehee!! my life sciences teacher in 7th grade told our class a story of an unapproved experiment he & his friends did in college:

take 30 mice, separate into 3 cages, 10 per cage. setup one cage with a few drinking bottles full of water, one cage with cola, and one with beer. leave for winter break and check on the mice when you return. results? the water mice were thin but healthy. the cola mice were dead. the beer mice were fat and healthy.

i suppose the moral of this story depends on whether you prefer beer or water, but the cola effects are hard to ignore! and yes, i do drink cola still, just not for 3 weeks straight with nothing else in between. that was college

I think soda is a bit different form the green peas the kids are eating, though as far as differnt from twinkies..eh prolly not to much....

I prefer to waste calories on chocolate NEver said I don't waste calories, just not on pop..though I have heard dark chocolate (my fav kind) is actually god fo you in small quantities....never heard the same of pop.

                              Re: Do you buy pop?

I think pop is a big waste of money, especially the major brands, they are way too expensive. I used to buy the Sam's pop, it was only .50 for a 2 litre.

However, this is my other reason for dissing pop. I had stopped drinking it because I was having heartburn problems, and I read where you should lay off the carbonated beverages. Since I stopped drinking it, I have felt so much better, I used to be all stiff and achy and tired. Now I have a lot more energy. The other thing that happened was I had a pop at a family gathering over the wkend, and soon after I drank it, I developed a terrible headache. I used to get these headaches all the time when I drank pop daily, but hadn't had one since I'd quit pop. So it makes me wonder, what's in this stuff?
