    Re: Do you buy pop?

Soda has caffiene that contributes to dehydration (leading to heachahes if you are not hydrated enough) and simple sugar which can also trigger headaches.

I read somewhere that it takes 15000 glasses of water to equal the cost of a six pack of soda. It has also been founf that the phosphoric acid in soda reduces bone mass and density!

      Drop the pop!

The phospahtes in dark colas like coke or pepsi leach calcium from your bones, not a good thing for anyone, but especially for small-boned women who are prone to osteoporsis.

Idont' buy it anymore tho i will indulge when eating out occassionally in a diet coke. i swear that stuff is somehow addictive.

          Re: Do you buy pop?

I quit drinking diet soda because of the bone thing and because it made my face puffy. I figured that there is something in there that I don't want. I tried the diet teas, but then read the label and realize there is a bunch of stuff in that, too. I guess I'll go back to brewing my own hot tea......it is more economical anyway. We do buy soda for Hubby to take to work and to drink with dinner. He's cut back to two a day now. I'd like to see him down to one a day. His has lots of sugar in it.

I guess that's my point. Many people enjoy foods with little or no nutritional value, and when consumed in moderation I can't see any reason not to.

There isn't much of a practical difference between soda and a glass of vodka, a bag of Doritos, or a scoop of ice cream. (And before the inevitable hair-splitting starts, yes, I suppose Doritos have a modicum of fiber and ice cream has a bit of calcium. Most soda has vitamin C )

I don't buy pop, even for my kids.

So, if we ever get our hands on it, it's a very special treat indeed.

One of my new years resolution is going to be to give up pop

it won't save me any money though as I am allowed to fill up my refillable big pop cup at work for free so i fill it up just before leaving and sip all night
I hope to switch to water as not to pick up any additional expense in my switch

I must admit we go through a fair amount of caffeine free diet coke in our house. We just like the stuff. We also drink gallons and gallons of water - we have a 5-gallon cooler in the kitchen (filled with tap water). But nothing beats a nice cold can of soda.

I Admit I am addicted to pepsi.

I read all the bad stuff about pop hoping to scare me out of the habit. BUT frankly in moderation I don't see much bad about it either.

Okay, trust me, I am all about peronal responsibility, but I SWEAR they put some addictive substances in PEpsi - LOL. I have no will power when it comes to the stuff.

But I buy the small cans which cost more, but greatly limits my intake.

& yeah dh nags me just about each and every day about how bad my Pepsi habit is. which makes me dig in my heels more - LOL.

I actually have 1 small can every day because it is helping me to lose weight. I can get a sugar rush for little calories and I eat the rest of my daily meals all healthy and homecooked. I would like to give it up someday, but is really helping me avoid other sweets so I stick with it for now. (Bet that is a new one, huh?).

For the kids, moderation is fine.

Where I am from, a pop is a spanking!

If it is soda you are asking about, yeah, that is our vice. No smoking, no drinking, no gorging for us. But sodas, yeah, we live for the fizzle that goes down our throats.

                            Re: Do you buy pop?

I do buy seltzer water and club water....no sugar, no caffeine, not artificail sweeteners, but more costly thatn plain water. I love the bubbles and it gets me to drink enough water and my grocery bill is very low, so i do allow it as a treat.

I don't drink the diet stuff....don't like the taste.

I love the taste of regular soda....My Guy drinks it (he's his own keeper) and every now and then I'll have one as a treat. Unfortunately I prefer some costlier stuff, like Orangina and Aranciata and Limonada. (Though when it comes to colas and other plain soda, the generic is fine with me.) I try to drink these very infrequently.

I buy soda when I can get 4 or 5 12-packs for $10. I go through periods when I will have a can of soda every day (sometimes 2), but then I will go 3 weeks or a month without drinking any. DH is the same way. Sometimes I just gotta have it! I usually stick to the diet, but sometimes I want the sugar.
Either way, I always drink plenty of water.
