Earning Extra Income

Hi all-

I wanted to ask what people do to earn an extra income (part time job). I would really like to start a part time job after my normal full time job to make some extra cash to save for a mortgage down payment and pay off car loan.

Any ideas or statements from experience would be greatly appreciated (especially in the Fairfiled county area of CT).

I currently have a Saturday job working for a construction company. It's good money and only one day a week, so it doesn't cut into my schedule too much. I used to have an evening job after my full time daylight job. The extra money was nice, but it really cut into my schedule. I didn't really have time to do much of anything like going to the bank, cutting my grass, or shopping. Also, I didn't have much of a social life. In the end, it just wasn't worth it to me, that's why I went and got a Saturday day job as a part time job. I have all of my evenings free, and I still get to have a life and see my friends and family.

I do the bookkeeping for the library in town. I can do it from home and for the amount of time it takes (once I got the spreadsheets set up), it pays pretty well.

get a PT job at a store you normally shop at (i.e. grocery, walmart, target, lowes): they might give an employee discount! you'd be making extra money, and saving money on things you're already buying.

Do you happen to have a Master's degree? If so you may be able to teach online classes.

I'm a personal chef and will soon start teaching nutrition classes at the YMCA.

I mystery shop.. I get reimburst for going out to eat.. (date night), and have been help paying my way through college. I also sell on ebay.

I've started a retail job over the holidays and school breaks part-time. It's been nice, so I don't have to work while in school, but have a little bit of extra money. In the past I've also tutored - a great job in the evening and you can pretty much choose how much work you take/don't take.

I have a day job in my field, and I also moonlight in the same field. Sometimes whatever you do for your day job can be turned into a second job. More resume fodder, and it might pay better than a PT job in something entirely different because you'll already have experience.
