What would you do with $1m if you had to spend it in one year, starting tomorrow? Assume you have no debt, and you're not allowed to save it or invest it. You will lose any money you haven't spent after 365 days.

Ima, is that spending or investing?
If I HAD to spend it, I would travel the world with my family. I would look to have as many experiences I could with that money. My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

I see a few first homes homes in my (3) daughters' futures and one for my parents!!! To equal it out, I would also pay DS's business debts and get him set for life!
and hopefully, DH and I could take that cruise to Alaska that we'd always wanted to take!!!
wow, a million goes pretty quick, doesnt it??

Re: You Must Spend $1 Million in a Yr.
I would buy a big piece of land with water access and build myself my dream home. I would hire the best kitchen designer in the world to come create a kitchen that would be the envy of the finest chefs, and I would fill it with everything I could possibly need. For the water, I'd buy a simple boat and a few WaveRunners for fun. I would then buy all the jewelry and books (since a fantastic library would be part of my dream home) I've ever wanted. No more remainders or used trade paperbacks -- new fancy hardcovers. As for jewelry, diamonds and alexandrite until my money ran out (if it hadn't already).

Wasn't there a movie years back, with Richard Pryor, where he had to spend X dollars in so many days with nothing to show for it in the end? If he made it, he received even more money?
What was the name of that?My other blog is Your Organized Friend.

I guess I should respond since I think I'm the one that suggested this thread.
I would make a big donation to my temple's endowment fund, maybe half a million.
With the rest, I would get my basement waterproofed so we can stop vacuuming up water with each bad storm.
I would replace my car and my wife's van.
We would do a nice vacation, probably a Mediterranean or European cruise. My daughter really wants to go to Amsterdam and visit Anne Frank's house. We would also love to go to Israel if things settle down over there. And I would love to see Tokyo Disneyland.
I would give some money to my cousin. He is less than 5 years from retiring if all goes well. I'd love to be able to help boost his nest egg a bit.
That's all I can think of at the moment.Steve
* Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
* Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
* There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Re: You Must Spend $1 Million in a Yr.
I don't need a year! Give me 24 hours!
I would, of course, do the serious stuff. I'd pay of my debts, buy my mom's house, buy my brother and DH's brother a home, and offer some to his parents. The remainder would be donated to our local pet shelter, used to improve our home, and used to replace our cars. Yawn.
But if I were going to have some real fun, I'd buy:
2,941, 176 Snickers bars
or
8,261 froofy dresses for which I have no use
or
4,000,000 games of Skee-ball
or
2,217 10 day non-expiring premium WDW hopper tickets (enough for DH and I to spend 36 years straight at Disney World!)
