  • Frugal Snack

I've been buying the flavored tuna packets from Walmart as a snack at work

90 calories, 19 grams of protein.
They come in a variety of flavors and are only 88 cents a piece

My favorite frugal, healthy snack is homemade greek yogurt. By making it myself, I can get about 3 quarts for a $5 gallon of milk. Add a bit of honey, vanilla, fresh/frozen fruit, or whatever else you prefer ... and you're off to the races. ~150 calories, 20g protein, and totally customizable flavor.

Plus, I save the strained-off whey to use in a variety of ways -- it can replace buttermilk in many recipes (pancakes/waffles/muffins/other baked goods), marinating/tenderizing meat, or our favorite is to add it to smoothies, oatmeal, or home-baked bread (in lieu of water or milk). It's got a bunch of vitamins, probiotics, and some extra protein to boot.

Of course, it does take some time/effort ... but personally? Totally worth it.
