  • Subway Coffee Much Less Expensive Than Starbucks

For what its worth, yesterday morning on the way to work I got tired of paying $2.15 for a small coffee at Starbucks, so I popped into my local Subway and got an equivalent cup for a $1.50.

Keshet - great point. Its much less expensive to make your coffee at home.

How was the flavor of the Subway coffee compared to Starbucks?
I'm one of the "make it at home" crowd, but this information could be useful on a road trip.

Of course, I only live 5.5 miles from work so 1 cup of coffee lasts the whole ride.

Subway sandwich shops? Are they open in the mornings when more people have coffee?

Yes, I think that subway sells breakfast sandwiches and whatnot.

McDonald still has lower prices - something like $1.00 for a small coffee.

I'm just guessing, but I think Starbucks costs more because folks are willing to pay it for the quality of the coffee.

Yes, Starbucks its better quality than Subway, but...I care less about that. Creamer is usually free at these places, so you can always doctor up the cup with some cream and call it good.

If you aren't concerned about quality, making your own Folgers or Hills Brothers is probably your best bet. And re-use your coffee grounds too!

My DH loves starbucks. But he does pour over and it's great at home. When we travel he refuses to do without a cup so everyday this week he's had a large venti starbucks. Sigh.

The Subway near me brews their coffee so strong I think I could dump it in my gas tank to clean my fuel injectors.

I'm actually a fan of McDonald's coffee. Always fresh, good, and only $1.

I have 3 McD's within 5 miles and they all make crap coffee. Maybe it is just the weekend shift that doesn't know how to make it, but it is either weak or so strong that 5 creamers doesn't change the color and there are coffee grounds floating everywhere. Most of the time, it tastes like I licked an ash tray. I prefer Dunkin Donuts, but they are a lot farther away than McD's.

I keep forgetting that Subway serves breakfast now. I should try it.

If you really like Starbucks like me, the cheapest way is to buy their grounds and brew it at home. The grounds cost maybe 12 bucks, and probably make 150 cups of coffee. That's about 8 cents a cup.

If you're getting coffee out (and hanging out for a bit) Panera is a great spot... I think it was less than $2 for a HUGE cup and you can refill your coffee as long as you're there in the restaurant.
