We have the $160 for 4 lines plan with AT&T.

But we have 6 lines......one iPad for $10 and then a 5th line for an additional $15.

    So:

6 lines: $185 plus about $10 in taxes.

DH has a 25% discount through work on part of the bill.

    $170 total

Dh's work pays $50 for his line.

OUT OF POCKET COST FOR OUR FAMILY:

$120 for 6 lines, 15 gb data, 10gb roll over, unlimited talk and text.

If we didn't get the extra costs from DH's work to help pay for our plan, we would have gotten all our boys Republic Wireless accounts.

$10 for unlimited talk and text
$25 for unlimited talk and text and unlimited data

I tried RW for a while and it was great, but there were a couple of drawbacks:

      1. You have to use their Motorola android devices. I like iPhones.
      2. You can't tether or use them as hot spots.

Otherwise, if you are ok with the above, they are a great value.

Same here. I'm using an iPhone 6 plus (no "S"). However I'm finding that 2.5 GB of data isn't enough for my needs. Usually 3 - 5 days before my cycle ends I use up 85% of my data and Virgin Mobile slows my speeds considerably to 3G (they do send me an email saying 85% of my data was used). My other complaint is that during the 85% of data I don't always get 4G LTE and sometimes only can get 3G signal which is horribly slow. It's frustrating when it takes literally 1 to 2 minutes to load a simple webpage on 3G.

I'm almost embarrassed to say $18.60/mo Ting for me. DH has a prepaid Trac Phone (TracFone? Whatever it's called.) His minutes were bought ages ago and will take him ages to use.

We're just barely past the stage of cranking up the phone to get the operator to pick up at the switchboard.

How much do you pay? $28.33 with taxes and everything. This is where it ends up most months, but there are slight variations based on usage during a particular billing cycle.
How much data are you getting? 500 MB
Is it a single or group plan? Single
            What's the provider? Ting

            The breakdown is something like:

            $6 per phone for service
            $3 for 100 minutes
            $5 for 1000 text messages
            $12 for 500 MB
            $2.33 for taxes

Until 3 days ago, we were paying about $103 per month for 2 lines with 250mb of data. Yes, MB and not GB. It was still plenty for us, but I found out that by changing plans, we get 1GB and save $15 per month. It is still a bit of sticker shock for me because I had a stupid cheap plan from Virgin, but my sisters started texting their every thought and kept making me go over my texting limit. Then, my husband changed employers and no longer had a work phone. Around the same time, we bought a cottage where only Verizon worked, so it made sense for us.

group $140/month for 3 lines with t mobile. BIL pays $25/month phone so I guess it's $110 for 3 lines so $80 for DH and I.

                  $0. Work pays for it.

I agree! Staying under contract can actually be beneficial if you choose your plans and phones wisely - especially if you're a chronic upgrader.

Cell phone contracts are about like car leases. Typically it's the most expensive way to own cell phones, with the benefit of having the newest.

We recently changed our plan and dropped our bill by about $40/month. It is now $180/month. That's for 5 people, 4 with iPhones, 1 with a flip phone. 15GB of shared data with one month rollover, unlimited talk and text.

I switched to Cricket and pay $90 a month for 3 phones, each with unlimited talk/text and 2.5gb data. We got credit for two of the lines we brought and some sort of rebate I don't remember. We bought two no name smartphones for $1 and I kept my iPhone.

so I pay $30 for what was $64 and only lost 0.5 gb of data. It uses the same AT&T towers so I've had no loss of quality. I'm happy

My wife uses page plus(Verizon) at 37$ a month.

                              - Unlimited Talk, Text, and 3GB LTE then unlimited reduced speed.

I recently changed over to Project Fi by Google. I got a nexus 5x and have unlimited Calls, Texts, and 1 GB of data prepaid for 30$ a month. The new service is interesting. You prepay for data for budgeting purposes(as much as you want at 10$ per GB), but you can buy more data as needed at a rate of 10$ per GB(charge per MB) after that. The really cool part is they refund you what you don't use from what you prepaid. For instance, if you prepay 1Gb and only use 500mb, they refund you 5$ (500mb) on the next bill. You only ever pay for what you use regardless of what you buy in advance.

The other reason I'm with them since they aren't the cheapest option really is their service. They use Sprint, Tmobile, US Celluar, and wifi AT THE SAME TIME. The sim card will pick up whatever has the best signal, and use wifi if it is good enough as well for calls and sms. I just hope they add Verizon soon(i doubt it).
