You have to watch the expiration dates on ones you refill or that are refurbished. Some brands, such as HP contain a small microchip, and even if that cartridge is full of ink, they will stop working at the time of the expiration date.

I had to take several back to Office Depot because they were brand new refurbished ones, and would not work. The manager explained to me the dates...I thought it was weird because I have never heard of that before so when I got home I called HP, and they transferred me to a tech guy and he said it was. He also said its just another way they get you to pay for the higher cost new cartridges, although they claim that after you keep reusing them over and
over the heads loose quality.
