I went to go get my prescription filled and instead of just grabbing the meds like I do and reading the pamphlet, I talked to the pharmacist about the drug. Anyway, we talk and then she pauses, goes in the back and comes back with a coupon. The coupon for my prescription inhaler covers the whole amount of my copay!

So 1.) Doesn't hurt to ask if they have a coupon for a particular drug. Most likely it will be the name brand.

2.) She also went on to inform me that there are coupons online from the drug manufacturers, which you are eligible for if you have certain types of insurance (basically, anything but medicare)

Thanks for sharing - although I try to save money whenever I can for some reason I never think about coupons when I'm picking up prescription medicine...!

As a doctor, I can tell you that I am inundated with reps bringing in savings coupons for their products. As more and more top drugs go generic, the companies selling brand name products are under more and more competitive pressure. They are rolling out more and more savings deals to try and maintain market share (of course they could just lower their prices ). So ask the pharmacist and ask your doctor too. And visit the company's website.

See if there is a website specifically for that drug, like Viagra.com or Diovan.com or something like that. Most major drugs have websites today. Either that or go to the company's website: Pfizer or Merck or Novartis or whatever.

Check with your pharmacy to see if they have any loyalty programs. I paid $30 a year and get $80 worth of savings per year. It's worth a shot!

Also, directly ask your Dr. if he has any samples. My Dad's doc has kept him supplied w/his most expensive (WAAAAY>$100/month) RX for years.

the worst he can say is no. Also ask if there is a generic equivalent or maybe 2 generics that add up to the same thing as your current Rx (one of my Dads meds is this way).

Prescription meds(no medicare Part D coverage)

This is my first post, any advice would be great. My moms meds run between $110-149 a month(medicare Part D premiums would have been about the same),so mom doesn't qualify for the pharmacy's discount plan(because of her medicare part A&B coverage). We use Walgreens Pharmacy, like that they can fax the scrip refills over to the docs office aft the first script is filled. Would like any ideas to save(they are long term meds)& we are on a limited budget.
