Garbage Companies & Trash Bags

Unfortunately, many garbage disposal companies, including the one who takes care of my garbage, requires the use of plastic gabage bags. You can be fined if you try to throw things out in a box. If you do, the box must be put inside a pastic garbage bag.

Hopefully, it'll work for some people, though!

Oh that stinks...I meant toward the use of plastic bags... Mine will take anything. The newspaper plastic bags work great too for the small garbage, such as cat litter.

We have to put our trash in trash bags or large plastic bins here, too. But I don't buy small wastepaper basket bags for indoors. Instead, I recycle the grocery-store plastic bags as liners. I try to reuse these bags, too, at Aldi...until they're literally falling apart at the seams! Then I collect 'em and deposit them in plastic-bag recycling receptacles (try saying that three times, fast!) in front of some of our grocery stores.

Last week I put mine all in walmart bags. They picked it up, but left me a warning note not to do it again.

We have the large cans that the automatic garbage truck picks up. I love it, huge and no knocked over cans or bags laying in the street (like my old hometown) They want stuff in bags in the can but no one has complained when we dont like for boxes and the junk mail, which I prefer not to take in the house.

But so far I can't convince DH to stop using the big bags for the kitchen (he is still in charge of garbage) We don't use any in little cans, well one as a liner, but for the little ones he just dumps the garbage in the big bag when he takes it out, about twice a week.

our garbage men take anything and everything, I had a plastic bin I used for storage which I use to hold lawn clippings untilt hey picked up they leaves and threw away my storage bin, it was quite big too!! we have left couches out there and left the trash in wal mart bags and they don't care they take it all!!

we have a dumpster in our complex and they tell us not to do that but we still do and we have not heard anything about it. I guess it is cause enough ppl here do it they won't say anything. we also recycle the grocery bags

We don't have trash service, so we have to take it to the dump. I'm lucky in that there is no charge at the dump & it's on my way to town.

I tried not to buy the tall kitchen trash bags. Instead I put in the big black bag. But I found that my girls didn't fill up the bags. Once it exceeded the kitchen trash can, they just got a new bag. So I went back to the kitchen bag size.

The walmart bags always seem to have a small hole in it, so liquid stuff oozes out. But I do use them for the small waste baskets.

I guess my next step is not to buy any more black bags, but instead just use the kitchen bags. Wish my girls were frugal. Wait til they have to pay for things themselves.

ours just limits your weekly waste. my dad is allowed 8 bags per week. he only throws out one, so they dump the barrel also.

we have the regular trash service, dumpster outside the apartment, anything goes, but i try to be as polite as possible and conciderate as i can, i had a roomate that was a trash guy, and i would hear some really bad stuff about people being really bad with their trash...
i am sure the situation will change when we get a house.

Been awhile since I posted since may of 05, we have dropped our service, and we take it to the recycle center/share the garbage. and since doing that, plus a few more frugal habits we have about one bag of garbage a week, plus tons of recycling.

Ever think what a major luxury it is for osmeone to come to your house to take your garbage away?

We are compelled by the town to use garbage bags. It is a pain but the haulers won't remove household waste not in bags.

We burn our trash-I recycle what I can, either here at home or by taking it in. Then we burn whats left. We ran out of trash bags a week ago. But, I have been using grocery sacks, boxes as I unpack (yes, I am still unpacking 1-2 boxes a day from my move in June), dog food and feed bags... I haven't really missed not having the bags now-or having to pay for them!

This is so OT but I am in the same boat about unpacking. When we moved we had a 2 month old and I thought it would get easier when she was older boy was I wrong. I have a hard time finding time to clean now that she is all over the place. But we use grocery bags for our trash

I use the smaller garbage bags from the grocery store. If you tie them up and put them into the garbage can, they will take them. I also use the smaller bags to pick up weeds and smaller things in the yard that doesn't require a large bag.
