  • Returning an item without the receipt

I recently lost a receipt for 2 items I needed to return to BigLots.
I really thought I was s.o.l.; however, on a chance I went back to
the store last night and asked.
Guess what - not a problem!

BigLots will refund your purchase price in full on a BigLots giftcard
I don't know if this is just for this time of year or always.
Don't know if there's a dollar amount limit (my returns came to $55).

Anyone else have a positive report like this at another store?
or know of other stores with easy return without receipt policies?
Would be nice to know which stores are lienent.

Walmart has done that for me. They too will put it on a giftcard if you don't have the receipt.....and actually it was over the summer.

lots of stores will do that. The annoying ones are those with receipts that still only give you a gift card.

Michaels will give you store credit without a receipt. I have no problem with that. I had to exchange a frame today that broke when I opened it and it was the easiest return I have done.

I prefer to shop online at companies like LL Bean and Lands End because of their return policies.

At point Walmart would swipe your drivers license and 3 times they would refuse returns without receipts (think theft).

            Target!

Target has always been great to me--they can scan your Credit card or whatever and find and refund the item.

              Yes, Lowes does this also!

This has nothing to do with a receipt, but Best Buy has a policy regarding finding something they sell at a lower price elsewhere. If you do find something you've purchased from Best Buy sold for less at another store, simply go to Best Buy with proof (an ad or flyer) and they will give you the difference plus 10%.

On Halloween, I brought my kids to the mall and had some time to kill. I went to Best Buy for a couple of items, and then scoured the mall to see if I could find my purchases cheaper. Unfortunately, I didn't find anything but worse, I was sucked in by the Dead Sea products kiosks. Their high-pressure worked on me to the tune of way too much money. And I'm not one to part with money very easily. In effect, I let Best Buy's policy indirectly cost me a lot MORE money. I'm going to see if this kiosk ordeal has been discussed yet. It's a very interesting scheme....

I've been able to exchange an item at Lowes. But when my wife and I married, we found that we could return anything at Bed Bath and Beyond because we were registered there. We got a couple of duplicates and were easily able to return them.

One of the nice things about registering at Bed, Bath & Beyond is that you can return things off of the registry for CASH! No receipt needed, you just have to ask otherwise they'll give you gift cards.

I have to say I have been really frustrated with Target's return policy lately. I don't know if they changed or what, but there are a lot of restrictions. From what I remember:

-Without a receipt, you only get store credit that can be used in the same department as the original item
-Without a receipt, each person can only return a small dollar amount per year (I think it is $25!!)
-If the item is considered "seasonal" they will not accept the return at all, even with a receipt, even if it is clothing

I can understand that they are trying to limit costs but I think it is excessive personally. I know other stores are not this restrictive.

I guess the lesson is to always save your receipts from Target, get gift receipts if it's for someone else, and return items as soon as you decide you don't want them.

Toys R Us has gotten really strict on its return Policy...90 days and MUST have a receipt, original or gift receipt. I bought a Wii controller at Christmas, and just forgot about it, and found out this when I went to return it, after begging and pleading (it still had the "R US" security sticker on it, so it wasn't like it was from another store) they did refund the $20 to a gift card. I will certainly make sure that I don't go through that again!

Target's return policy is the worst. Do a simple Google search and you'll find a TON of unhappy customers.

That being said, they did recently change their policy AGAIN!

-Without a receipt, you only get store credit that can be used in the same department as the original item
-Without a receipt, each person can only do two returns a year
B]-Without a receipt, you can only return items worth less than $20 (used to be $40)[/B]
-If the item is considered "seasonal" or clearance!!they will not accept the return at all, even with a receipt, even if it is clothing

They changed the return policy just after we got married. I knew I was taking a HUGE risk having our wedding registry at Target. Thankfully everything went smoothly.

I've started changing my own oil. I do most of my shopping at Advance Auto parts. Earlier this morning while taking my old filter off, my oil wrench broke with me. I went to Advanced after lunch and showed it to them.

They took it back and got me a new type of filter remover which was great. But what was amazing is even though I didn't have a receipt they were able to look me up in their computers and saw when I purchased it.

I think most companies do that. I know some companies cut back a lot though. Home Depot used to give cash, back but so many people cheated the system they had to stop that. Its a shame how some shady people always ruin it for the rest. They're attitude used to be a customer over their lifetime is a potential $50,000 spender.

Treat the customers great and don't hassle them with returns. I thought it was a great attitude. It drives me nuts when a company gives you hard time over a few bucks, but I can only imagine the scams some customers try to pull too.
