I have a oatmeal (round) container that I mix up about 1/2 cocoa powder, and 1/2 powered milk and sugar to flavor in. Then I shake. Al I have to add is hot water. I started doing this years ago for camping trips and continued it at home-easier for the kids as they don't have to scald water.

that sounds awesome! I used to use choc syrup and dry milk to make fudgecycles cause you can get the choc syrup in sugar free, great diet choc fix.lol and now im diabetic so even more reason to start making them again this summer. Ive seen sugar free baking chocolate also, wonder if that will make a good choice. Just add my sweet n lows. lol

I see your point, if your busy, your busy, hubby likes that i make stuff just for his pail for work though and only occassionally, like pay day, buys one on the road to work, cause he goes to the bank and has like a half hour to get to work(18 miles away), by the time he gets up and goes and does what he needs to do. It wouldnt be so bad except, the walmart by his shop is not a super , so its closed when he gets off work at 6 am. So he keeps his sleep schedual on Fridays and stops one day a week, i dont mind that tho. His work would be dangerous if he was not sleeping regular.

In case it gets asked later, he is on a paint crew, that does barges for the govt. Even last night, he had to go to the er, cause his paint gun shot off in his hand(he wasnt hurt tho, thank God). They had two deaths at that shop, one in that dept for that reason, it shot and entered the paint in the blood stream, it killed him. Its dangerous enough being fully alert. Your prolly thinking how could that happen with a paint gun, but they are not that which the public uses. They are very powerful pieces of equiptment, one that takes 3 men to operate(one on back of line is actually holding 2 parts, one hand on paint hose and one on air for hubbys suit, not including that he works in full climbing gear, so he dont fall off the barge. Like a firehouse, it has extra power then what we can get at a store.

I work at home, so this isn't really an issue for me, but still, I never go anywhere without my coffee. I have several travel mugs and great cup-holders in my car. I use flavored creamers, so I don't need sugar, because the creamer is sweet enough. I stock up on coffee and creamer when they're on sale. The cream doesn't go bad for a long time, unlike most dairy products.

And I never throw unused coffee away. If there's still coffee left in the pot from the day before, I microwave it in a cup for about a minute. Tastes perfectly fine.

Lately we have had a traffic jam due to the car line-up extending down the road blocking a lane on a v/busy thrufare linking the ring road hwy. This is all for a cuppa joe @ Timmy's [Tim Horton's].

I don't get it! They line-up to pay $ 4.50 for a smallish paper cup of ordinary coffee when it is so simple to pour a measure of quality coffee into the top + 4 cups of water into the side of a good coffee maker the night before. In the AM just flip the switch and get on with your morning routine. The whole house will smell divine, you can pour a grand travel cup [these are free promo items everywhere] jazz it with whatever cream, sweet chocolate, cinnamon etc. you prefer .

Cost is under a buck a mug even when you prorate the cost of machine and fixin's

i used to pay about $3 every day for one cup of Starbucks and rarely stopped at one.
i now prepare the coffee maker to make four cups every evening. turn it on just before my morning shower and enjoy my first cup while watching the morning news and take the rest in my thermos for breaks at work.
not sure how much i am actually saving after my big can of Folgers and i use plenty of canned milk--but plan on doing the calculations and put the money saved on credit card debt daily.
even a tiny bit will help, right??

Great mahanda, thanks to you I started a 'coffee can' savings plan and will drop $3-$4 for each time I don't stop @ Starbucks etc. As luck would have it, I was given a Gfft card for Starbucks! I decided to offer it 'for sale' on the bulletin board at work. These cards are convenient and I hope someone will buy it for it's full product value.

I've made my own coffee for years and like many of you, get the coffee pot ready the night before. I had a coffee pot at school for awhile, but due to the cost of power, all individual coffee pots have been outlawed by our district, so I'm back to the thermos. I also keep tea bags available at work as well as at home.

Just a side note, if you bake chocolate cakes, left over cold coffee is a good addition -- it is said to make the chocolate flavor come out more.

As for water, I refill the bottles with water from home from my filter pitcher. One gal I work with tells me I'm really cheap -- during the warm months I put a green tea bag in the water bottle for green tea -- yet she's the one who always has more month left than money.

I drink ice water all day long, so I don't spend a dime. I did however, buy a water purifier, but it is still going after 11 years!

I splurged at Christmas time and bought Hubster and myself each a 5 lb. bag of our favorite flavored coffee beans from the roasting house. It's probably been about 3 or 4 years since we've had any of it! It was part of our Christmas to each other. We've opened his and are using it, and mine (heheheheeee) is stashed back deep in the freezer. I wouldn't have given any thought of getting any but was driving by there and I hardly ever get to that part of the city, so, it made for a nice surprise and he was happy to get some! Brownie points for Mrs. SantaFrugalis!

He drinks it but doesn't want any of his buddies to know he likes 'frou-frou-girl' coffee. HA!

LuxLiving: I read or saw on TV that coffee beans should not be put into the freezer. You can put the ground coffee in the freezer. Sonds like a thoughtful Xmas gift.

Since there was an article about Starbucks laying off a bunch of folks, do you think a lot of people are making their own coffee?

I tried something new this morning: I like milk or creamer in my coffee. So I mixed the milk with a mix like Nestle's Quik to make a chocolate "creamer" and it's pretty good.

For years, I have been making my own coffee, just black. To pay for coffee is strange to me. I take my lunch to work, sometimes just a sandwich, it's part of my diet also to eat less. I've got wife to where we share a meal at restaurants to save money and calories.

I have been brewing my own coffee for years. I have a nice travel mug and don't ever leave home , even for a 5 min trip without making myself some coffee. I really don't care for fancy coffee. I like black coffee but I do like hazelnut and other flavored coffees. I don't add milk and sugar but will occassionaly do so and steam milk for company. To "steam milk". I put a half cup of milk in the microwave, then I put it pitcher and whip with a blender to create my own flavorful javas. A shot of carmel ice cream syrup and the steamed milk, then I sprinkle with nutmeg or cinnamon.
BTW, I am intrigued with the idea of growing your own coffee. Why not? I think it would be fun. Is this possible to do in one's home? I would like to hear more about this possibility.

Alot of times during the summer we put into ice cube trays the leftover coffee to make cold coffee drinks. There is nothing like an iced coffee on a hot summer day in the afternoon!!
