I don't loan money to people on principle. I've been burned by that behavior, only to find that people suddenly "don't have the money" to pay me back later.

And it seems that the people who "can't afford" to pay you back can somehow afford to go out to eat, go to the movies or a concert, take a vacation, etc. And now with all of us hyper-connected on social media, it's easy to see what your friends are doing so you can tell when they are just BSing you.
