I have started my Christmas shopping!

Due to the Blackhawks losing the playoffs, I managed to snag a Kane jersey that is normally $170 for $60 for my daughter. She has been asking for one for 2 years, and I'm not going to spend $170 on that for a 12 year old. I also bought a set of spoons for my sister and a Feisty Pet for a niece. I had them on my Amazon wish list since before last Christmas and the prices finally dropped to good deals. I love using their lists to keep track of gift ideas and camelcamelcamel to track the best prices. I'm looking through the Mother's Day sales for gifts for the females I have to buy for, too. I plan on keeping an eye out for tools for my nephews during the Father's Day sales.

The last few Black Friday sales have been pretty bad, IMO. Everything I needed to buy was cheaper before BF, so I'm not counting on the deals anymore.

The only person we really buy for is our daughter and I don't think she's mentioned anything that she wants yet. If there's anything she does want now, she certainly doesn't want to wait until December to get it.

I'm in Hawaii right now and saw a really nice Harley Davidson wood carving that would make a nice gift for my brother but I saw it in Waikiki and it was priced around $15 too much, maybe tomorrow, I have some budget shopping locations I want to hit up

Not purchased but already know what im getting parents.

My father is going to help renovate our house...I doubt he is going to ask or want any money...so we plan on sending my parents on a week vacation somewhere tropical. The flights will be covered by credit card points but the hotel/rental car wont be cheap to say the least.

The earliest I've ever done shopping was one summer I saw a book collection I knew my sister would love. My family does a rotation and it wouldn't be until the next year that I would have her. I picked it up for $1 (love libraries!) and stowed it away for 1.5 years when I mailed it with media mail rates.

Note: I have a designated drawer for gifts. When I went to see if I had something, there it was. I didn't have to remember.

And yes, I am that cheap when it comes to giving on a schedule. On the other hand, if I really want to get my father in law a Treager for $700+, we find some siblings to go in on it with us, shop coupons, and have no problem whatsoever dropping several hundred dollars on it. The difference is looking for a gift vs. trying to get someone something because you really want them to have it.

As to the original question: I have a couple gifts already picked out for specific people, but even in December I try not to "Christmas Shop" and instead "Christmas Scavenge" (presentable things laying around the house, presentable things at the thrift store, homemade crafts, etc)

Impressive, but no I have not started yet. We now only buy for our daughter's and parents (three). I am saving $50 a month, so we currently have $250 set aside.

You might come out ahead by getting them a Costco membership and using it to book the car rental. I'm not 100% positive, but I think only members can rent the car and not reserve it for other people. It saved us several hundred dollars just on our last rental, and spouses are added for free.

I'm going to say yes we have. We mostly give cash gifts and we set aside $$ each month starting in Jan.

Nice.. bang on. I usually start saving at this point of the year for the back to school sale that my kids will need comes Dec for their coming Jan semester!

The shopping continues. I bought another jersey for someone else and 6 lunch crock pots for grab bag gifts. They are $10 each if you buy 3 or more (does not have to be in sets of 3) and look like they are starting to sell out. I think I will give one to my husband now though.

It is never too early to pick up a deal! But yeah, I have 11 nieces & nephews, 6 adults for grab bag gifts, and my immediate family. And then there is the school wish lists and my sister's students that need winter coats and sometimes gifts.

We actually started ours in January, but not necessarily on purpose. We were on Tybee Island for vacation and saw a lovely pottery bowl that we knew some friends would like. It was made by a local artist, so we bought it for their Christmas gift.
