You said you didn't understand why people insist on discussing it, and I explained to you why I participate.
Because aside from almost completely avoiding media entirely, there is no escape from the bias for Clinton that makes me want to puke.
I find it disturbing that the Democratic voters found her to be the best option for President.
I also find it disturbing that the Republican voters couldn't put forward a better option than Trump.

Debate aside, my question is this.
How come Americans look for a president to solve all their problems? I hear a lot of "Trump is an outsider, will go in and shake things up...change everything...because we cannot have another 8 more years of Obama" or whatever. Or a candidate will say something like "I see all the hard working citizens of Ohio watching their jobs disappear to someone overseas"...
I'm looking at even people who wants small government want the government to provide them with something..as if they have no control of their own destiny.
As for the statement about how the president doesn't really matter...it's all about the butterfly effects. Sure whatever they do today doesn't seem like anything..but it can possibility have future consequences 10-100-1000 years from today.
For example...Repealing Glass Steagall during the Clinton years didn't do much for the people at the time (besides seeing a boom on wallstreet)...but things sure started tumbling down during the housing crisis 15 years later....Going into Iraq twice didn't do much for their everyday life in the 90s, but you are sure worrying about ISIS today, which gave raise to Trump, which amplifies Islamphobia to the highest level since I lived here.
So no, I don't expect the president to make my life any better or worst. But I also realize that every word that comes out of our president's mouth can cause positive or negative consequences 5-10-50 years from today.Last edited by Singuy; 09-27-2016, 11:44 AM.

I guess I am just very cynical. I totally agree the President has power to make decisions that can impact peoples lives near or long term. I just think that regardless of which party's candidate wins is just going to do what their corporate puppet masters and military industrial complex tell them to do. Obama bashed Bush on surveillance and warrantless wiretapping when Bush was President but not only was the Patriot Act reauthorized, it was expanded under the Obama Presidency.

That is the very reason why Trump is both polarizing and a trainwreck, because he is not a politician. He doesn't follow a script. He just says whatever pops into his mind.
In my opinion, if he were able to tone that down some (but not completely) early on he would leading in the polls and would win the election. Instead he continues to put his foot in mouth and alienate a lot of people.

If Hillary were an Elitist that believe she is above the law, wouldn't you want to know? Oh, that cat is out of the bag.

The more time passes, the more I am convinced that many people are not as smart as they think they are. I think too many people equate their personal opinions and beliefs to truth and reality.... And that is such a seriously bad way of going through life.
To me, this is abundantly clear whenever I see how Trump handles himself. And yet, he's managed to become the Republican nominee? Exactly how many people have been drinking the same Kool-aid for this to happen?
So, I don't think I can answer your question without perhaps considering that many of our fellow Americans are simply ill-informed about the powers and limits of the executive branch.

1. I think Hillary clearly won the first debate.
2. Like several others mentioned, I am upset these two are the best candidates the two parties can come up with.
3. As a Veteran, I love the military. I don't often support the choices our elected officials make and utilize our military power for, but I would never be where I am in life if weren't for the discipline and money for college I received by serving in the military. With that said, I really don't want to see Hillary as the Commander and Chief of our Military. If I was Trump, I would just pound home Benghazi, her unlawful handling emails, ETC.
4. I believe that race relations are getting worse in the United States. I understand as a white male I have certain advantages that minorities just don't have. Honestly it amazing me that after 8 years with a black president, race relations are not better than when he took office. For that I think Obama was a complete failure. I think the best thing for race relations in the US is a strong economy and job market. I think Trump is more likely than Hillary to create jobs. BUT...I cant imagine much would come out of his mouth that will improve race relations. "I love Mexicans, 1000's of them work for me and they love me" He is just such a boob, its like watching a bad SNL skit but he actually says it on his own.
5. I consider myself a Republicrat or Demublican. I have religious and personal beliefs that are not clearly supported by one party or the other. And since I tend to believe that ROWE VS WADE is not going to be repealed in the next 15 years I think if I had to vote today it would be for Hillary. I also don't believe anyone in a country as wealthy as the US should go hungry and that is why I tend to like Hillary. I have a lot of right wing friends that fall in the "pull yourself up by your boot straps and work hard and you will be fine, its not the governments job to help people. I don't agree with this.
6. I also think that the US needs much better mental heath care. 22 Veterans commit suicide everyday, we are a society numb to school shootings, workplace shootings, etc. I just think Democrats see this issue better than republicans and I would like to see funding go here.
enough rambling, I guess my point is I believe our country has bigger issues than either candidate
