So I work for a large multi state big box store and have for 14 years. Recently they have been pushing me to become a manager in one of the departments. I make pretty good money now and might even need to take a pay cut if I do it. My gut says stay where I am and I am happy doing what I do but they are putting a lot of pressure on me to go into management. An I wrong in not taking the promotion. I Could possibly make $200 more a week if I get toped as a manager but who knows if that will ever happen. Thoughts and opinions appreciated. Oh I would also have to commit to move to a new store 50 miles away.

My advice is you should suggest if the job fits with your skills and abilities. If not, then I don't think passing it by is a bad thing at all.
I'd also take into consideration the 50 mile commute distance. A lot of time/expense would get wrapped up in that. Unless this move is absolutely strategic to catapult you on to bigger and better things, I don't know that it would be worth it for me, personally. But you have to decide and weigh the options yourself--if you're happy where you are, the money is ok, why change?History will judge the complicit.

It's hard to say without knowing your situation. But, I personally wouldn't take a job that I was unsure about. Can you talk with your superior and a member of HR to discuss things in more detail, answer any questions that you have, etc.?
Why are you thinking that you may end up with a pay cut if you take this promotion? If the money isn't right either ask for more money or don't accept the job.
Will this promotion lead to further promotions down the road?Brian
