What are some of the things you forgot to buy when moving in to your first place? I'm trying to avoid as much struggle as possible.

Well IDK if it caused a struggle but you never think of things like a hammer or screwdriver until you need one to put something together.

Pots and pans so you can cook. Salt and pepper and other basic cooking ingredients. Toilet paper

I wouldn't worry too much. It will be something every day/week/month for a while.

Just posting to subscribe to this thread... I'm buying a house right now as well (closing tomorrow!! ) so I'm sure I'm already forgetting stuff I'm going to want/need.

Shower curtain. New furnace filter. Dryer vent.

I just moved into a new house two months ago and I can't say I remember what we forgot. Another poster put it well...you'll be running out for quite a bit in the beginning. I'd save some cash and then start thinking about the things you use daily.

          Excited for you kork, too!

assorted kitchen stuff like paper towel holders, silverware holders, and a wide variety of cleaning products. My experience moving a dozen times was that I was at the hardware store or Target almost every day.

I'd do a quick mental run through of what you do on a Saturday, from waking up to going to sleep. And think through common items associated with what you're doing. That will help you catch a lot of them. But as Brian pointed out, you're bound to forget something. It's usually items you don't use that often (like fingernail clippers or something)

              Wake up
Shower (Soap, washcloth, shampoo, towels, floor mats, etc.)
Use restroom (TP, toilet cleaner, plunger, toilet brush)
Brush teeth (toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, mouthwash)
Shave (razor, shaving cream, hand soap, towel)

Eat breakfast (cooking supplies, skillet, non stick spray, butter, salt, pepper, etc.)

Clean up (trash cans, trash bags, vacuum, cleaning spray, windex, etc.)

and so forth. At least if you walk through your morning routine step-by-step, as least you'll be ready for work during the week

I think the main things I forgot were random cooking ingredients, random bathroom items (like Kleenex), a few things for the kitchen, and then just random things that I couldn't remember now if you asked me

I think I needed something almost everyday for the first few months. There were alot of trips to Lowes, Walmart, and the Dollar General during that time.

This move, we had to buy a new dryer electrical cord, since it was a four prong outlet rather than three. We didn't realize it until we went to hook it up!

Shower rod and rings...to add to my previous post regarding the shower curtain!

My habit is to change my all id 's password every month due to security reason. But After every change I forgot my password and this happens most of the time.

I just started a notebook where I write them down. I can't keep track anymore. Thanks for the ideas, everyone. I just bought a tool kit that was on sale on Amazon.com. And I guess, for the most part, I should just expect to be making runs to the store every day. I can tell already this is going to get annoying.

Well, I'm very forgetful since then so I always have a notebook and pen inside my bag. I just list down important things because oftentimes those are the things I usually forget.

I mainly forget the birthdays of my friends so I tend to keep schedulers for the same.
