  • Just paid off our HELOC!

I just made the final payment on our HELOC!

We opened the account in August 2017 and made the one and only transaction on 9/7/17 for $14,416.50. That was to pay for an insurance policy I had to take out when I left my practice that month.

We have made payments totaling $14,602.35 so we paid $185.85 in interest.

Most importantly, we repaid the loan in 9-1/2 months.

Our only remaining debt is our mortgage and the plan is to add $1,000/month to that payment and have it paid off by October 2019 at the latest.

Well done! I hope you'll plan a celebration to acknowledge the final mortgage payment. We need to acknowledge these life milestones.

I imagine we'll do something. We kind of celebrated making the last college payment by booking a weekend trip to Maryland to stay in a nice hotel and attend the local food and wine festival. That one-night trip cost us about $700 which was a splurge for us.

If I had to guess, we'll do something along those lines to celebrate the end of the mortgage.
