my wife and i plan to get into a house sometime in the first half of next year. we had so much debt between both of us that we knew we had to fix our debt/income ratio. now since we have no debt and already live on a frugal budget. We definately feel comfortable with moving on to the next step on our lives. we wanted to be in a house 2 years ago. But we held that off for the better of our financial future. It was a tough decision especially with low intrest rates and all that news about get into a house NOW.

So until then,PARTY TIME(LOL J/K THATS HOW WE GOT INTO DEBT). To be honest, before we thought about becoming debt free, we just accepted that we were going to be paying school loans for the next 10 plus years. Until we took that step and made it priorty. POSITIVE THINKING AND TEAM WORK.

Kudos to you and DW who made the decision to work together to pay off student loans. Getting it done two months earlier is terrific and you have both saved so much interest.

Congratulations! If you don't mind me asking, how long did it take you?

My wife and I are on a plan to pay off all our debt including our mortgage by 9 years, latest.

We just started this month so sometimes when I think about it, it is very daunting as 9 years is a long ways off.

But reading stories like this and browsing everyone's blogs, it gives me hope.

My wife and I paid around $40-45,000 in about 18 months and thats not saving and paying off our whole wedding without parental help the year before. We also had money going into a pot we use to travel. little weekends trips makes everything worth wild.

What we did was live off my income only. which i do make less than my wife. My wifes paycheck went straight to our debt. I took care of everything else. Our total income is 108,000 total. we made sure when we went to the store, We had a list to go off of. we didnt over spend. We stop going out on Fridays and Saturday nights. once in a while we would treat ourselves. But staying positive and team work was the key componet. Its quite intresting because through this process of staying commited to pay off our debt. we became closer if that was even possible. We came up with a bunch of random free things to do. etc. haha. But the light at the end of tunnel is always there. so stay positive and it will be the best decision you'll make.
