  • Dead bugs in food! Help!

I found dead grubs in my macaroni tonight when I was cooking Minestrone Soup. I want to contact the company about it ASAP but I'm not sure what or how to tell them in an effective way. Please help!

You should report a problem to this type to the FDA.

Really?! I just wanted my product replaced. I will contact them. But I would still like a reimbursment for my macaroni.

Well, I'd like a reimbursmnent for all the ingredients that went into making the soup too, as I caught it right after I poured it into my pot (eewww). Who knows, there might be more in there. DH says not to throw it out (I made a ton of it too) that he will eat it anyway..."extra protein". Makes me sick just thinking about it...

don't know that you can do anything about this time, but next time grab the camera and take a picture. 'tis worth a thousand words, and maybe a replacement!

I did. I took a pic with my digital of it after I pulled it out of my pot.

Check your other dry goods now! It may not have originated in the macaroni. A friend of mine brought home something and it spread all through his pantry; everything had to be discarded.

If you didn't find live bugs, you're probably ok though.

As for calling the FDA - it's a grain product, sadly sometimes you are going to get a bug in your flour, cereal, etc. I'm not saying eat it, it's just one of those hazards of life!

I didn't get in touch with the FDA, I figure it happens some times. I did get in touch with the store (it was a store brand) and they are sending me out a $5 coupon to reimburse for the macaroni. I think my whole double batch of soup cost about that much.

Bugs appeared in my pasta at one time. I think it was an old box though. I just tossed it and never gave it a second thought. I wish I had thought to contact the store.

I had this happen once--I took it back (half cooked) to the grocery store. They refunded it, plus the price of the tuna and milk I had added.

When I lived in FL, this happened a lot (some kind of yucky weevil...) stores were great about giving refunds, I never contacted manufacturer directly.

Yes I also bought a 25 lb bag of flour from Smart & Final. After a few uses, I noticed the mealy thingys. I took the whole bag back and they replaced it.

However, I was diligent in cleaning out the pantry so other things were not contaminated.

I don't buy that much anymore (use whole wheat now anyway) and EVERYTHING goes in airtight containers even if it's just a ziploc bag.

I had a caterpiller in a can of green beans once. I have more problems with live things like ants. What a pain.
