  • Plaid Class Action Settlement: Deadline April 18th, 2022

    All,

Plaid, a well know finance infrastructure app, got sued for gathering more information than they disclosed to their customers.

So, If you connected your bank account to a finance app using Plaid between January 1, 2013 and November 19, 2021, you might be eligible to part of the class action settlement.

    The application materials are here.

I did some very basic due diligence on this - it appears to be legit.

    See: Cottle v Plaid.

I wonder if it's possible to go through life now and never inadvertently find yourself as a member of someone's class-action lawsuit.

I doubt it. I've been included in countless cases over the years and I've gotten settlements from several.

      * Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
      * Why should I pay for my daughter's education when she already knows everything?
      * There are no shortcuts to anywhere worth going.

Why not just sign up for the ones you're eligible for and take the money?

Personally? Because I have no interest in attaching myself & my name & my information to a hundred different lawsuits, all of which become public record. No thanks. It's a minor grasp at privacy, but unless I know it's a significant matter, I don't think it's worthwhile to put myself out there. Not to mention, most class actions don't result in a meaningful award afterward -- most large, product-related class actions end up with the claimants receiving literally just a few dollars (Ex: from the Naked juice class action years ago, most folks got less than $20).

The only class action I've signed on to was VW's "Dieselgate" -- resulted in them buying back my Golf TDI, with enough for me to purchase a brand new/5-yrs newer gasser Golf (top trim too) for just $1k out of pocket.
