I am an italian affiliate. I have more than 100 websites in italian and english. I suggest you to set up website for italian market (55 million people) because the competition is realy lower. For instance for "car insurance" niche i use to compare the volume of monthly searches for the exact same terms in google italia and google USA.. Sometimes i found 3 times more traffic in USA but the competition is 15 times higher.
There are too many competitors in the US.
However i found a way to create client bait for getting traffic in google.us with domain name i bought 6 months ago. New domain name, not aged domain name. I created 300 pages with 300 article titles for every niches. Yes 300 article titles. I know you think 95% of the topic are the same. ;-)
Not at all i did a deep search about my niche and i found that there are so many possibilities to attract visitor to my sites without talking about the main topic.
For instance "cheap car insurance for new drivers". Most of people will try to rank for "car insurance rates"" compare car insurance"..."auto insurance for new drivers" but the competition is still huge.
I use a tool that give me hundreds of funny keyword that i used in my article content.
For instance "How to Lessen the Effects of Alcohol". yes..weard i know. but so many 17old type this in google ..and they also type "Take driving lessons"..this means that young driver have parties but the also will need a car insurance soon.
i also found terms like "night driving glasses"..i though it was weard and not usefull for my content..but in fact this terms bring me qualified traffic because i saw that yellow polarized night driving glasses were beneficial for night time driving"
So now 25 of my website in english bring me 4000 to 6000 visits per months each. I only try to rank website with high CPC in google adwords. this is my advice for you. your main niche should competitive (2$ or 3$ CPC)
But the topic of my post was : Do you prefere adsense or clickbank to monetize your website audience?
