  • Franchises or other Business ideas?

I am interested in having some additional (semi passive) income. Has anyone here had positive or negative experiences with low-investment franchises. Or please share thoughts in general about franchises. Or any semi passive income ideas are also welcomed. Thank you!

Buying a franchise is about the farthest thing from passive income as I can imagine. Successful franchisees work loads of hours building their business, hiring and supervising employees, marketing, etc. It is a very hands-on way to go.

When most people talk about "passive" income they are usually referring to things that aren't so hands-on, like investments. Real estate can be relatively passive if you hire a property manager to handle all of the day to day work for you.

I'd consider leasing out a commercial property to someone that wants to open a franchise restaurant before I'd want to run the actual franchise. I'd rather be a landlord than a franchise owner. But, being a landlord isn't exactly passive either. Just less active than running a franchise.

        That's an interesting idea.

You and Steve are correct that franchises are often not too passive. I was thinking about someone who owns a fast food place (not that I wanted to) and imagined they did a lot of work but it wasn't exactly a 40 hour per week day job. So that was what I meant when choosing the poor phrase of semi-passive. A vending machine owner, also not fully passive but something else along the lines of what I was thinking about.
