I was going through my jewelry and found a number of pieces that I no longer use or that are broken. The quality of gold varies from piece to piece, but they are all gold (some 10k, others 14k, etc). I am no longer going to be wearing any of this, but it seems stupid to just throw it away. Where is the best place to get the most money for this scrap gold? I know there are a lot of shops that advertise that they buy gold, but many of them seem to be affiliated with pay day loan businesses which doesn't give me much confidence in getting a fair price going there. Any suggestions?

you have to call around and find the best deal, there are some real scammers out there, use this calculator to get the value then shop around.

You are probably going to get ripped off at the pawn shops, gold buying places. Here's a refiner who will pay around 95% of melt value. Depending on how much you have, you might be better off shipping your scrap to them.

Thank you for the information. Does anyone go to estate sales looking for junk gold to resell, or is most of it priced above market value? I was just wondering since the garage sale / estate sale season is starting to move into high gear.

Gold is Gold!
I know many people who have traded their old gold jewerly, watches, etc. for money and it can be a great way to make extra cash.
But beware of place that rip you off with ridiculously high commission rates! Make sure you do your research first before selling anything.

If you can avoid the scammers and their high commission rates and sell off the gold items, then you will be able to make good money from it. Well, I have never come across resell of junk gold in estate/garage sale. But you can definitely check out with others who are into regular garage/estate sale to get more info in this regard.
