  • Reselling Goodwill Items

Just curious if anyone was buying and selling items from Goodwill. I just learned about the goodwill outlet stores and the really low prices.

I have in the past but over time, Goodwill has steadily raised their prices to the point where it no longer works. In fact, I rarely even buy anything at Goodwill anymore because their prices have gotten too high. Combine that with ebay getting more and more expensive and the whole buy and resell system fell apart.

Sorry I was talking about the goodwill outlet stores. The retail stores are way to high for me as well.

levi's sell really good on ebay, my local goodwill has a 1/2 off special on wed. i used to go in and buy all the $2 and $3 levis for resell, i would make $5-10 profit per pair, there is money but you really have to grind it out.

My mistake. I'm not familiar with the outlet stores. I'll have to see if there is one in my area.

I saw a few videos on youtube and basicly it's just bunch of large bins of random things that they liquidate. They sell things for pennies for the lb.

There is a variety of goodwill store. But prices got raised cutting resellers' profit. Here you can buy most of the stuff by the pound. Prices vary depending on whether you are buying clothing, glassware, or something else. Books, CDs, and DVDs are still individually priced, but are lower than at the retail stores. No organization is present here virtually, nearly all could be rolling out in large bins. Hence, prices are minimized here as work is lessened, no sorting, cleaning and pricing of items.

There is a newly opened Goodwill outlet store near me. I went over yesterday to check it out. Totally bare bones store. All merchandise except for a few larger items (desk chairs, suitcases) are in large blue bins. Very little sorting. Clothes all together, shoes all together, books all together and that's about it. Everything else is totally mixed. Items are $.99/pound with a minimum of $.99. They say that new bins come out every two hours. A peek into the back room makes that pretty clear. It was 3 times the size of the store with tons of bins and cartons ready to go.

Overall, it was a great deal of junk but some decent stuff mixed in. Mostly low end flea market or yard sale type items. I wonder about the value of the $.99/pound system for items like china, glassware, mugs, etc., since those are heavy relative to their value. I picked up a couple of plastic Disney freezer mugs so that was worth it but a couple of china mugs probably would cost more than they're worth.
