  • Amazon's Mechanical Turk?

Has anyone tried the Mechanical Turk that Amazon has going? What were your thoughts? I'm self-employed, and it's looking like Q3 2012 may be a bit slow for me, so I'm pondering things to do at home to help get a few extra bucks. It's not a big deal, since my wife's income alone pays the bills and mine is just extra discretionary spending and retirement savings, but I'm not exactly looking forward to sitting at home being bored all day.

Really, no one here has tried it? I guess maybe that answers whether it's useful...

I looked into it and actually tried it for a couple of hours, but after clearing like .67 cents for 2 hours, I decided it wasn't for me.

If I were you, I'd search for "google rater".

0.67 cents for 2 hours eh? Styling...I think I'll stick to advertising my blog or just doing more audits. Thanks for the tip on Google Rater...I'll check it out.

I was very interested in the Amazon Mechanical Turk myself. I was always looking for new ways to make money. However, the pay is ridiculously low. I worked for about 4 hours straight and made $1.50. Definitely not worth it if you ask me.

I've bought stuff from there but never worked. As people have noted here, the pay is horrible.

Mturk is really a feasible way to make a good income. You are earning pennies for income. if you can write there are lots of freelance opportunities out there.

I use mturk. I think the key is figuring out the best way to sort the "hits" so that you spend the least amount of time looking for worthwhile ones. I only do surveys on there because most of them are quick and easy. I sort by newest hits first, and I put in a threshold of at least 35 cents. On average I make $3-$7 an hour doing surveys. It's not much, but I do 3-4 hours a week and make around $50 a month.

                  not worth it

unless maybe you are retired or a student, there's better ways to make money online, as it's fairly labour intensive for the income generated. but, saying that, sites such as elance and odesk for people wanting to freelance skills also typically pay an average of 10 dollars an hour for equally intensive work.

You can make decent money from it, unless you consider $2 an hour good pay. Definitively don't try it.

I looked into it but thought the rates were so low that it wasn't even worth it for me to try. I have better luck with demandstudios.com and hubpages.com.
