I have used and made money from Clickbank for years. Truth be told, the clickbank marketplace does have a lot of shady products in it. But there are also a LOT of legitimate products that truly are helpful to the end user. The hard part is finding the product that converts and is legitimately helpful to the end user.
I sell 3 products from clickbank on a few of my sites, and I have made close to $20K over the last 3 years just from CB. I also make money from adsense and amazon. (Clickbank being my lowest earner).
What I like about clickbank is the amount of commission you earn. Typically, the products will award to you between 50 and 75% of the end sale. That is really high for the affiliate internet marketing field. That means if you sell a product for $50 you can make up to $37. That's a nice commission on $50. If you find the right program to promote, they will have a lot of great tools available for you.
What I don't like is... Trying to weed out the not so hot products. There are a lot of these, but trust me when I say, there are some true gems. The information products do not convert well. I found a product I thought would convert well. I promoted it hard and had 600 clicks and no sales. I did a little more research and found out that the same info in the ebook was plastered all over the internet for free. Big mistake on my part.
Look for software instead of information. Information can be found anywhere online if you look hard enough. But software is harder to come by. Find a good piece of software that really helps it's end user and can't be found anywhere for free.
Ill let everyone in on a little secret that I use to convert clickbank like crazy. I'm talking 1 out of 15 clicks with only 4 returns in the last 2 years.
Make a top ten list relevant to the software you choose. For your top 3 on your list, give them good solid useful information that they can truly use and apply to help them with their problem. When you get to number 4, give them your software and tell them how it can help. They are going to trust you more, because of your first 3 pieces of information. Then finish out the rest of the list with other great tips or pieces of info.
I will give you one example, only because it is very competitive and I am not too worries about anyone sneaking up on my keywords.
I went into the automotive Niche (please don't do this if your new, it's ridiculously competitive). I wanted to write a list of ways people can get affordable used cars. I made a top ten ways to get a cheap used car. (Not my keywords, so don't even try looking). I talked about haggling with dealers, looking on classified sites. Gave some really good info that will really help the end user. Then on number 4 I provided them with a site that helps people find vehicle auctions for a one time charge of $47. I don't get a lot of traffic at that site, but when I do they convert. Not to mention if you can get a site with traffic flowing to it in the automotive industry you can get close to a dollar a click with adsense.
I hope this info helps people who are struggling with Clickbank currently or are trying to decide if it's for them.
To be successful with clickbank you need traffic though. This was not intended to help you get traffic to your site, this was just to give you the ins and out's on clickbank. Most internet marketers fail because they don't want to put in the work. It's not easy but can be very fruitful if you put in the work.
You can use these methods with pretty much any affiliate program where you are selling a product. But clickbanks high commission makes it perfect.
Any questions? Ask away!
