  • Natural Cures for Skin that's Got a Case of the Blahs: A Homemade Rejuvenating Facial

I don’t know about you but every year, around this time, my skin is feeling and looking pretty blah and in need of a little pick-me-up. It’s like my skin has been starved of sunshine and fresh air for far too long. Oh right, it has! It's called another Canadian winter spent in partial hibernation.

What’s so great about frugal living is that I don’t need to go to a spa to pay $100 for a facial when I can do the same thing at home with natural ingredients (most of which I already have) that, when paired together, make up the perfect home cures for skin that’s got a case of the blahs.

To mix up your own home facial that’s totally rejuvenating and luxurious yet oh so frugal living friendly, here’s what you need to do:

Make a paste with olive oil and white granulated sugar. Rub the paste on your skin in a circular motion but be sure to avoid your eyes--I’ve made the mistake of getting too close to my eyes with this stuff before! Once you’ve covered the surface of your face, rinse off with water.

When you’re finished with the exfoliating face mask, mash up the flesh of an avocado and apply it to your face. Avocado is a great natural moisturizer and will leave your skin smooth and soft. Leave the avocado on for about 30 minutes and rinse off.

For a couple of dollars you will have treated yourself to a gentle and luxurious facial that will leave your skin with a healthy glow. Natural cures for blah skin, right in your kitchen pantry!

Do you have any favourite homemade beauty treatments?

Sounds lovely. : ) Along a similar line, I am trying to get into more bare bones cleaning products that don't harm the environment. I tried baking soda on my white kitchen sink this weekend and it worked wonders. I used to use bleach, but I think the baking soda worked even better. Next up, cheap vodka in the bathroom.
