  • Good o'l buy low sell higher

    After a few years living abroad, im about to head home to re-enter the job market.

    However, just days before I fly out, yet another entrepreneurial idea popped into my head. As i picked up my tailor-made suits and shirts (very cheap in Thailand), I decided to ask about the ties, and got into a discussion about bulk orders and low per unit pricing.

    So here's where im for the communities opinion.

    Would you rather;

    A) Sell the ties at a weekend market, selling direct to the consumer and retain a large amount of the profit?
    B) Try to sell wholesale to stores?
    C) Hire people to sell to stores and pay them commission?
    D) All of the above.

    In case you were wondering, I've got the price down below $1.50 ea.

    You're not exactly the first person to come up with this idea so I wouldn't try to compete with those who have huge economies of scale. I'd go with A because you can rely on your salesmanship and stories to raise the premium. Also consider that these options target different types of customers. The A group will probably pay a little more.

      Set up a website and sell them, its such a level playin field now, and theres plenty of places to get a free website, thats a great price to get them for.

        First check out what are your extravagance and remove that from your life style.Do save more and invest more but for this you have to over come in your expanses and extravagance .Its the practical and formula and economics tells us as well about this rule.

          Depends how involved you are with the product. If you want to spend a lot of time with it, then choose option A. However, if you plan on just doing this as a small side project, then choose one of the other two options which will allow you to spend little time, yet still make a profit.

            All the options have their own pros and cons. I definitely would pick one and stick to it instead of trying all of them when you first start out, otherwise you would spread yourself too thin. Someone mentioned setting up a website and selling them online, which seems like a good idea given the low starting cost and you could theoretically make a high margin depending on how efficiently you advertise and market yourself.
