Medical testing
Does any of the testing facilities test treatments if you do not live near the facility? I would be interested in testing for Multiple Sclerosis or Glaucoma, but have never seen any ads for medical studies in ID or UT. The Dept of VA contacted me about my MS. I filled out a long survey and have not heard back from them. That was over 6 mths ago. No, they don't payOriginally posted by jeffrey View PostAnother way to make money is to participate on Phase 2 and beyond studies. Phase 2 studies are where they test the drug on patients that have the ailment that the drug is supposed to help. While these studies will pay money to participate in them, the pay tends to be much lower than the phase 1 studies. Phase 2 studies can often be located by looking for advertisements of current studies in local papers.
If ever there was a pill for MS, I'd be the first in line to try it and I'd do it for free!!

I just noticed this old question in the thread, and didn't see an answer. One place that I've done tests/surveys for is Stanford's Behavioral Lab online. I can't post links yet, but search for "GSB Behavioral Lab" in quotes.Originally posted by Casebusters View PostIs there a website for that?If you live near a university there are plenty of other paid experiments in various subjects such as economics, group theory, and even testing video conferencing. I did this a lot when I was in college and it was usually fun, and they paid in cash.
I don't think I'll be the subject of any medical testing though.
That sounds better than something that may hurt you!
Most of the test/survey thingies are for a drawing, but they'll usually have one for a guaranteed $5 Amazon gift card posted at least once a week or so. They're just short simple online survey-type things you can do online, maybe ten or fifteen minutes long, asking for your reaction to something, decision-making studies, that kind of thing.

The year was approx. 1995, I was 30 yrs old, healthy but unemployed. I saw an ad in the college newspaper where I attended college. The ad was recruiting volunteers to test a new sleep medication. It paid $300 for an overnight stay at a major hospital. Subjects were administered one dose of the medication and were either placed in a control group or a placebo group. I signed up and my overall experience was pleasant. I remember that I had to check-in on Saturday morning at the hospital. The particpants were all assigned to individual beds and private rooms. I had a nurse assigned to me during the entire stay. They were all very nice (I actually felt like they were pampering to my every need). The food was great and I ordered second servings for all my meals, I'm not a big guy (160 lbs) but I guess hospitals adhere to strict portion controls. During the experiment later that same day on Saturday afternoon I remember getting an IV solution and being told that the experiment was now commencing. I never went to sleep but I remember reporting to my nurse that I could feel my body temperature rising and feeling a little warmer than usual but nothing more. I probably felt anxious as well not knowing if I was getting the real medication or a placebo. I must have gotten the placebo or maybe just a small dose of the sleeping medication. I spent the night watching TV and relaxing. Sunday morning I went home. Looking back I would never place my health in an experiment like that again but I guess I was desperate and needed the money. I often wonder if that experimental sleeping medication at the time was Ambien or Lunesta from seeing the TV commercials these days, I guess I'll never know.

There are a lot of opportunities that are listed in local papers if you happen to live in an area where some of these ongoing studies are done. It can be worthwhile keeping your eyes open for them. While I have never done any, I have friend who have and they have had overall good experiences doing so.
If you live in a college town, you can also look for psychology and sociological studies taking place which will often pay a bit of money and you don't have to ingest any drugs.
