When do sales start?
Generally they start every Wednesday/Thursday, always stare at your flyers (you can get them for free at the front while walking in, or on the Walmart app)
Scanning Code of Conduct:
You know that little white piece of paper by the cashier that no one reads? THAT is the scanning code of conduct in which most grocery stores honor. It basically means that if an item scans for a higher price then the shelf price you are entitled to $10 off of that item. This is especially useful if you shop in the morning, as most people don't actually change their prices until 10-11am as they have more important **** to do. This only works on single items however and they'll just correct the other items if there is duplicates. So if the item is under $10, you get it for free.
One of the best ways to cheese this is by looking at the price on the Walmart app, it's pretty convenient as there is a UPC scanner by the search bar. If it's higher there, it means it will 99% most likely scan for higher at checkout.
Save 10% for damaged packaging:
If you're buying things like cereal, juice, electronics, virtually anything. You can ask if you can get something off your item because of the packaging being damaged. They will generally take off 10% at checkout.
What it damaged? It could mean the box was opened, the box is deformed/crumpled, etc. Hell, I've seen people purposefully tear off a tiny corner and still get it. They're pretty lenient about it.
How clearance items work:
I can only speak for perishable goods, but the general rule is that if you're confident something is going to be there 2 days before expiry, you can ask for the clerk of whatever department if they can discount it if they haven't already.
How it generally works:
2 days before (during nighttime) = 1st Discount
1 day before expiry (morning) = 2nd Discount
1 day before expiry (night time) = 3rd discount
(For Indigenous Shoppers) Some Walmart's take taxes off if you show them your treaty card.
This heavily depends on the Walmart but there is no risk in asking if yours honors it. But if you're indigenous with a treaty card you can generally get all of the GST off your bill by presenting your treaty card to the cashier before scanning your items.
