I think you misread my post.

I was not speaking to how insurance works. I was references the claims that storms are doing more damage now than they use to. If an identical storm from the 1960's hit the same area today, there is going to be far more costly damage due to increased construction and increased prices. This hypothetical storm is no more stronger now than then, but the cost may be a hundred fold.

You can chose to purchase lower liability, but if you're at fault in an accident, and their damages exceeds the liability limits of your policy, you very well may find yourself being sued for the difference. The chances of me crashing into a $3,000,000 Bugatti are pretty low, but crashing into an $80,000 Ford F-250 are a lot higher.

Also there is the medical component. Those cost continue to increase and are reflected in increasing premiums as well.

I’ll gladly help support the latter, but I refuse to sit quiet if those topics are permitted in the first place.
I see your perspective, but I really don't want to get into refereeing everyone's comments.
I don't have time, and not everything is black and white here. Lots of judgment calls.
You are correct, that it would be best if none of this were posted at all, but that probably isn't possible.
We can disagree as long as we are civil about it.
These threads seem to quickly devolve into personal attacks. I don't want that to happen here, as it seemed like things were headed that way.
You and myrdale obviously have different political views and it's hard for at least some politics to leak into financial conversation.
This could be good constructive conversation.
I'm just asking everyone to stay on topic.
